So the green sheen color to the dark one isn't a sign of a rooster? I've not ever met a hen that had it. I was actually hoping for one rooster hahahaha.
I've given my hens onion scraps and it has never effected the taste of the egg. As far as color... my silkie hen seems to have darker yolk than the polish and they are all eating the same thing. It may have something to do with protein usage... and maybe not...
I should mention they get fresh...
I've got these 2 young turkens, and my gut feeling is that they are BOTH males... The dark one has green shine to it's feathers, which I've only ever seen in roos. Also it seems like the backside has saddle feathers but then again I think I see that on the red one. They are about 3 months...
I didn't think about it that way. I was told by someone in a homestead group that you would put them in a cage inside the area in which the chickens are kept. I've got some younger polish that I was going to put in with my bigger polish and that was my plan, but now I am second guessing that plan.
I was always told that you'd want to introduce them when they are the same size as the ones you have in the coop at the time. I wouldn't know if this is like super necessary because I only tried it once, and the chicks weren't much smaller and they got picked on. :(
Ultimately you know your...
I literally just bought some turken chicks from my local TSC today. It was unusual that they had them as they mostly carry layer/eating chicks and not so much ornamental. I was stoked!! Looked like black, buff, and red colors there.
Im hatching some chicks for someone in my incubator. One hatched today and the others are still in shell...i do not intend on keeping them so i do not have any chick feed. I only have grown chicken feed. What can i feed them until the person comes to pick them up?
Question for you all.... you all know we have had some terrible heat (almost to the 100 degree mark here)...I have 2 polish hens (Laverne and Shirley) and this has been their first year laying... well...a few days ago they stopped. They eat, walk, cluck, etc like normal so I don't think they are...
They remind me of little eagles lol. I can't really tell by looking at this picture...however.... I do kinda get a roo vibe from the left one.... what do their tail ends look like. I believe saddle feathers are pointy on roos.
