Finally got my hatching eggs today! They sure are purty!
This is my second hatch and once again, I have more eggs than incubator space...by a lot! I ordered 20 and got 36, plus I am expecting a small lot of 4-6 in the next day or so. Not going to all fit in my Brinsea Octagon. What to do...
Hi, Wanting to join in the discussion here. I have 8 newly hatched chicks from a lot of eggs I won on EBAY. The roo was an F3 OE X Brahma and the hens were OE, EE, gold laced wyandotte, swedish flower hen, and light brahma. They are the CUTEST and I am so excited to see how they develop. I...
I usually save them chicken carcasses for stock, but I will have to try to save some bones I would throw out, like pork, to give the chickens. I wonder how many others do this? Great idea!
I ordered lav ams from the same seller for the vday HAL and they were packed great but were small pullet eggs. I also ordered a mixed lot off ebay which came normal size, avg mid 60's. Popped them both in my brinsea octagon after a 72 hour settle.
I lost 1 ebay egg due to blood ring and 100%...
Hi everybody,
Been subscribed so I have been keeping up with your posts, but I wasn't sure if I was setting eggs until now. This is my 2nd hatch, I just hatched 11 chickies in the Feb/VDay HAL. This time I will be setting between 20 and 30 depending. They are shipped eggs, but since I...
The GQF web site has the shake down type and a few other instruments listed on their site. I am thinking about trying the egg shaped thermometer since my incubators all detect temp from above and so does the HG1588 if I end up buying it.
Anyone try that one or have one they like especially?
Cool thread.
My husband and I are beer novices, but branching out. We enjoy trying different brews. Probably once a month he will pick out a sixer of the mix and match bottles for fun. And we just got our first "Growler" over New Year's. This one was not my cuppa tea, but DH loooooves...
Here are my results for this HAL:
17 eggs set
2 removed--1 clear and 1 ring
15 in Lockdown
11 made it to the brooder (Yay for fuzzle butts!)
Not sure what that makes for my percentage?
Of the 4 remaining, all were from one of the two lots of eggs I set
one was a partial hatch that failed...
Well, I think it is time. I am going to candle them and then if I get nothing as far as signs of life, I will go ahead and start a small opening in the air cells to see what I can figure out from there.
I have three left in there that I think I am going to have to pull the plug on. :( The last one to try and hatch from that group died in progress yesterday. I am thinking that these last three are likely no go's. Any way I can check if they are alive besides looking for wobbling or pips and...
I am just finishing up my first hatch in the Brinsea Octagon. I like it, automatic and all the bells and whistles and all that. BUT, when it came to lock down and hatching, I just want something where I can see more and give more head room to the chicks. With the pump setup, the chicks are...
Two of my LAs popped overnight, and had one more today, so I am up to eleven in the brooder. No cheeping, tapping, or pipping anywhere on the rest. I hope I get at least one more out of the LAs before all is said and done but all in all, I am happy with what's in the brooder right now: The...
So sorry to hear that! I was thinking these LAs had a great shot since they came so well shipped. My EBAY lot was so poorly packaged in comparison with 4 cracked or crushed in shipping out of thirteen and lots of wobbly air cells. Yet out of the ebay lot, I only lost the one due to a blood...
Check out this https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101, scroll down for the air cell info, and this other one talks about detached air cells, https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/704328/diary-notes-air-cell-detatched-shipped-eggs.
Personally, I traced my air cell lines for a...
