I opened the cap to my chicken fountain today and the smell was foul. I dumped out the water and it was green. I'm guessing algae. Do any of you have this issue with the PVC waterers? How do I prevent it? Ty
I've got a fan in the coop and it stays on high 24/7. The chickens love it and will stay in front of it. I'm def going to get a misting system. I'm not sure how to have that going when my hose is hooked up to their chicken fountain, though. We only have one spigot in the backyard. Maybe I can...
I may have to try that. My other chicks are bonded with him and so am I. I'm so mad at the lady whom I got him from. She swore up and down they were all hens and that she had sexed them at a day or two old.
I'm hoping a friend can take him. She's got 11 hens and no roo. He always sits in my lap and cuddles his head into me. I'm keeping him until he crows and I'm 100% sure. :(
4 month old OE. Dad is an EE and mom is a splash Maran.
My fav chicken and am thinking its a roo, which I can't have where I live.
The tips of his/her feathers on the wings and chest have a bit of brown on them. The very tip. Not on the neck, though. Hasn't tried any crowing.
4 month old Olive Egger. Hasn't tried to crow, yet.
I'm bummed. This is my fav chicken who's the biggest scaredy at of the flock. I've thought on and off that's its a boy, but held out hope. It's illegal to have a roo in my area. My neighbors would also not permit crowing. This sucks.
After looking at various types of feeders, I decided to try this one. Got it done today. Home Depot had the 3" pipes already precut to a perfect height. It was super easy and seems like it's going to work great. Ty!!
Wow, Ty for all of the tips. I'm def going to research training techniques and see what they respond the best to.
I got the coop today. I'm painting it, putting the shingles on and then going to have the run built all around it. I'm then putting a roof over the run. Fingers crossed this all...
Ty!
They definitely need some training. Ty for all of the input. I'm going to have to figure out the safest option for them. At this point, I'm going with the gauge wire and have to work with the dogs and training them.
I don't care about the look of it. I think the open air pens look nice. It's in my backyard, so it's not visible from the road.
I was thinking it would be better if the dogs couldn't see them and they couldn't see the dogs. I'll have to take video to show you how crazy this dog is. She's prey...
Thank you for the pic. It def helps me to see a visual. Ok, so mesh and a metal roof. Ty, again. Now I need to find someoneoc who can build this for me and build it well.
Ok. I was planning to do the hardware cloth over the top. I just worried that my dogs seeing the chickens would make them go crazy. We have a pit/boxer mix who is very neurotic and paces our fence that is next to a neighbors yard. They have a dog and she spends all day digging and trying to get...
We are looking to fence in an 8'x16' area for my 5 hens. I have dogs that will go after my chickens if I don't use wood privacy fence vs an open air with gauge wire. I'm worried the wood fence will prevent ventilation and the chickens will get too hot.
Thoughts on this?
