I have a 4-year-old hen who has fluid in her abdomen. The first time I noticed, she was super big and swollen. I read a few threads on here to get myself prepared and got an 18 guage needle and syringe and started draining it. The fluid was dark green and cloudy which I was super worried about...
I am absolutely addicted to my chickens. I have them 'for eggs' but I don't even mind if they don't lay... and egg is like a bonus! They're like a dog or a cat. I swear they can understand me.
I would at least open it so he can get fresh air tonight. You don't want to suffocate him. I'm hatching right now. So awesome seeing the babies come out!!!
Just to offer a little hope. This was a late bloomer. I hatched him myself. I gave him. 24 hours to hatch after he pipped and then took it in my own hands as he was a special one. I was trying crossbreeding and he was the first and only one from that hatch. He is now 4 months old and just...
When faced with that type of situation I always say a slim chance is better than no chance. He/she may be very exhausted due to the difficulties that come with hatching. Much longer in that egg is gonna kill it though. When you peel a bit of membrane, do you see blood?
Noticed one of my favorite hen has these white bug looking things on her neck. Are they mites? I have dusted them all with DE as a precaution and she's the only one I notice that has them. Is there any thing else I should do? Thanks!
i tried a lot but in the end, he did not make it. Poor thing. Now I have to deal with a whiny and very lonely chick. Tip: put more than a few eggs in the bator just in case. I just just sell/give away the remaining chick but he is ohh so sweet! Wish me luck fellow chicken people.
Great news! I noticed him picking at the rag I was using to hold him (for poop and whatnot) and so i jumped up and grabbed some chick food. He pecked at it! This is the first time he has done this... he ate 3 tiny pieces that I know of then refused any more. But I am happy with anything... I...
Ok so I believe in leaving the incubator running for a few days after a hatch is due just to give everyone a chance. This time I had only 1 chick hatch and he was screaming so i left the bator running hopeful. On about the 25th day I had a little Americauna chick hatch! He's adorable! But...
