Breathing deeply:
So the six-week old Australorp pullet got out of the cage and the Lhasa Apso had her in his mouth...she was lucky enough to be discovered quickly but sustained some soggy feathers and a fang-scrape on her back. Ugh. What would be good antiseptics and/or ointments to help...
Yes, it is Day 21. And the pipped egg was dead. I have some others that are maybes that I'll keep in just because I know I had low temps to start. Also REALLY just amping the humidity as much as I can; misting if it gets below 60...I think it's just sooo dry up here.
And Thanks for the well...
pretty sure the pipped one is dead...It looks like it pipped on the wrong side of the air cell; very crowded in there...so it pipped to the outside. i don't see any sign of life or movement so I just stuck it back in case I'm wrong. I hope the other chick doesn't mess with it; i'm moving it to...
Yes, I agree! That is the problem--but what to do? I have it back up to 60, but as I said, it keeps dropping and I don't know if I should intervene. the first chick that hatched yesterday morning about this time hatched beautifully and is evidently healthy and just about to peck through the...
My dear BYCers,
It is only Day 21...
Yes, I have been sitting on my hands since yesterday a.m.'s hatch.
Yes, I have read all the warnings about opening the 'bator and shrink wrapping. But my humidity keeps dropping and it seems I can't keep enough water going through the airline tubing in my...
That happened to me two weeks ago. It's extremely disheartening--especially since two little ones made it to the last week and then quit. I caught the spike early on but obviously there was some damage--also could've been cold temps in shipping...
But I'm going again (now with a new incubator...
I got mine Monday; plugged it in and it went to temp and stabilized in like 10 MINUTES! I feel like I've gone from a stone wheel to a Cadillac.
I transferred my 13 eggs and first candled to make sure there was something going on in there .
I think I have about 9 going for it; 2 clears and 1...
Yeah well the truly bizarre images that resonate for me were reading the 'body-incubation' topics of women that were talking about going to work with roosters in their shirts!!!! It just seemed so messy and probably rather painful...I was thinking there had to be some sort of mischief afoot...
Hi! I'm Jen in Livingston, Montana--originally New Orleans till I got blown up here by You-know-what. I'm about an hour and a half from you.
What kinds of chickens are you raising? what kind of incubator are you using?
I'm going to start an informal friend-to-friend hatching operation...
To be more specific: i'd be interested in the Light Brahmas and the Australorps; trying to avoid heating the coop for obvious reasons..!
Also I have some folks here who may be interested in some other breeds...just let me know which you need to re-home.
Thanks! hope it goes well...
How low were your too-low temps? And for how long? I had some in an LG that I've since moved to my new Brinsea Eco20. I candled before I switched them and had some veining but I think they were not high enough because development didn't seem as far along as it should've been by now (last...
Yeah I ordered mine last week and it's supposed to be here on Monday! yippeeee. Nice to see the pictures!
I'm trying to hatch shortcake's Dellie eggs and the last time was a wash (I think from bad weather and shipping weirdness)...but i find it very IRONIC that since my borrowed LG knows I am...
Hi there, Travis!
Sorry I seem to have missed your posts answering mine...My Delawares were in a coop fire caused by a heat lamp and dusty straw...It was secured but I think four feet is way too close for comfort. Rookie mistake. anyway huge tragedy... I am looking to hatch some more, better...
Okay...I just wanna say that those Brinsea folks should be kicking down some commissions to PurpleChicken...
I have wrestled with this temptation from the start of the thread and i just lost the battle...Thanks!
Now I get to go all "Office-Space-printer-baseball-bat-death-scene" on my LG...
...factors, etc.
Looking for a few breeds of hatching eggs but want extremely cold hardy breeds/good layers. Interested in (among oh so many others)
*Chanteclers
*Brahmas (all colors)
*Delawares (maybe/getting some of those already)
*Buckeyes
*Orps/Australorps/Blue/lav/Buff...etc
You BYCers...
I am in the exact same situation as you....I don't know what to do either...I want to take them out and see if there is any movement but afraid to mess w/ the humidity...maybe candling w/ a damp paper towel over them?
