Just found this thread, read through 44 pages, and decided to skip ahead and ask my question. I'm looking for pics of these particular breed mixes, and not having much luck:
Dark Brahma roo x Lavender Orp hen
Dark Brahma roo x Mottled Orp hen
Dark Brahma roo x Buff Orp hen
And the reverse of...
Well, if that was all the driving he had to do, not too much, but considering his job is driving around to look at houses all day (he works for a disaster restoration company), I think it'd be a bit much.
We're still waiting to hear back from the loan company about the loan. There has been a...
As appealing as that offer is, my husbands job is in Greensboro/Winston Salem. I think we found a house though. It's one 1.15 acres, backed up to woods, last house on a dead end, so nice and secluded. Just waiting to hear if we've been approved for the loan we applied for.
Hello everyone! What a sunny, beautiful day today!
I hope everyone is doing well. The owner of the house we're renting has decided that it's not worth fixing the mold and heating issues in the house, and has given us three months to move out, so now comes the stressful part of packing, house...
I've had quite a few hens successfully hatch and raise single chicks. This one wasn't killed by it's Momma, it was killed by a very, rather mean hen, that even Momma wouldn't stand up to (that mean hen is on the cull list). I normally move my broody hens to the brooder coop to hatch their eggs...
Hey all! I hope no one has floated away!
This weather is so bad for my health, I haven't been doing much of anything lately, except school with the kids. I've had a migraine almost every day for a week now. :( Plus the weather messes with my Fibromyalgia, making for a very miserable week this...
Hi, and welcome to the new flockers!
Last year, I had not a single hen go broody, not even my bantam, that will usually go broody if you look at her funny. This year, I swear, they all drank "broody kool-aid"! Craziness!
We rent an old house and tend to get a few roaches in the winter. I...
Hello all, and welcome to the new "flockers"!
I've been super busy this past week, on top of fighting some sort of sickness (cold-like symptoms), with myself and three of my four kids. Thankfully hubby and our son aren't sick (yet). I have a broody that is sitting on eight eggs and they are...
I have an EE, Black Australorp, Delaware, BO, and 3 Golden Sex-link hens...Really excited to see the different coloring of offspring from each, when mixed with Sven. Thanks for the replies, everyone! I really appreciate it!
Ah, thank you for the clarification. :) Unless someone else comes back saying different (not likely), I'm going with my gut, and majority, and saying Barred Rock mix. I'm happy with him, he's super sweet, not aggressive with people or the hens, and he's pretty. :)
I'm hoping he is a Barred Rock, even if he is a mix, as I love that breed. I did have someone a few weeks ago suggest a Cuckoo Maran mix, but I'm not sure about that, mainly because I know very little about the breed.
Hi all! It's been months since I was last on here! I just got so busy with life (homeschooling, animal care, church stuff...everything all at once it seems), that I dropped almost all interaction with the few forums I'm part of, including almost all social media as well! Things are slowing down...
Back in April, I bought a straight run of day old chicks from my local feed store. They were chicks hatched out by a local 4H group for a project. I got 4 groups of three chicks in each group: 3 Black Australorps, 3 Delawares, 3 Golden Sex-links, and 3 that were supposed to be Blue Asians. I...
I have two beautiful roosters, a father (EE) and his son (EE/PR). They are both lovely roos, great temperaments, neither are aggressive towards me, the hens or my children or even complete strangers that come over. I am downsizing my roos and am not sure which one to keep. I'm NOT a breeder, I...
Hey y'all! I've been so busy with getting the kids into a routine with school, that I've not had time to get on and update about Speckles.
She's doing better! Still a bit wobbly when she stands up too fast or tries to move too quickly, but getting more and more steady every day. Yesterday she...
That's sad that people actually do that. I know it's true (see it on CL all the time), but even I wouldn't actually do it, unless someone approached me, offering a hen or two for one of my roos (NOT likely to EVER happen!). I'm not uber picky about breed, since I'm not necessarily breeding, just...
It is hard to tell when people are being serious online... I'm almost NEVER serious! At least not if I can help it. After I posted that last night, I thought: "I should probably edit it, so people know I'm not serious about trading him...NAH! I'm sure they'll understand!" Oh well.....LOL
I...
Oh don't worry about being rude, I was joking about trading him. I know no one would be interested in him. Sad cuz he really is gorgeous. I am looking to get two bantams and two call hens eventually, but till I get rid of at least five roos I won't bring more hens in.
Ok, y'all a quick update:
The hen (Speckles) is still not laying, but she is moving around a bit more. Still having normal stools and eating and drinking normally. She moves away from me when I reach into the crate to feed her or change her water, although she's still a bit wobbly. I'm going to...
Posted this in Emergencies, but thought I'd post here too:
I have a hen that I found sitting in my yard a few days (almost a week) ago when I went out to feed the chickens. She had been pecked on top of her head enough to bleed and make me think she had a concussion, she has trouble standing...
