Dogs that are good with chickens?

I recomend a Border Collie. Though they DO like to herd, all my borders have done great with all the small animals. They are highly intelligent and highly trainable. A bc will ADORE you for taking them running every day. My current one, Jack, has only one problem. Because he is a stud dog, he...

    Rabbit Breeding Question

Hey there! Quick question about breeding my buns... I have an albino mixed breed meat rabbit type male and a black and white rex female. I just put them together for about two hours. What do you think the babies could turn out to be? Is the albino gonna be dominant? Will the soft Rex fur come...

    Mystery Leg/Foot injury

Ehhhh... I have never experianced a broken bone... however, according to https://bestfarmanimals.com/broken-chicken-leg-lame-how-splint-treat-part-2-of-3/. the bird would be unable to put any weight on the injury. Also, the leg may bend in an unnatural place. As for the sling, great idea!

day old chick w swollen legs and feet!

some pics would help a lot! first off, it would be a good idea to get pressure off her feet/legs. take a paper cup and turn it upside-down. cut out the bottom and glue some soft cloth over the opening. Then, once the glue sets, cut leg holes in the cloth. this will be a "sling" for your baby to...

    Swollen Toe Joints?

To help with swelling, boil ginger root and put it in the blender. Then, take the mash and put it on some pause or cloth. wrap the foot/toe and leave for 10 min. when you take the cloth off, the skin should look a bit softer and the swelling should go down! hope that helps!

    Mystery Leg/Foot injury

Is there any stiffness when flexing the "elbow" of her leg? feel her hocks, it may be a misplaced tendon. If so, you should be able to pop it back into place. For pain reduction, get some ginger root and some green tea leaves (the stuff inside teabags works fine). Boil them, then make them into...

Help me get rid of my nightly visitors!!!!!

If you want a long term/super adorable form of pest control, get a livestock guardian dog! They will not only fight the rats, but also raccoons, coyotes, some will warn the flock when hawks are around! that way, you won't have to deal with the worry of having poison that your birds or some other...

How to Keep Chickens Cool in Upcoming Heat Wave?

We got a splash pad from Walmart for 10 bucks, just attached the hose and turned it on low. Also, if you have a good guardian dog, (we do) try leaving the coop doors open all day and night, that way they can come out whenever they like to enjoy the water. Heck, most of my birds just plop down in...

    Crippled chick

My now 1 yr old roo has the same prob with the hocks. try very gently feeling the joints of the hocks, might be an out-of-place tendon. Try wrapping them with some soft cloth or medical tape.

Crippled roo... Anyone see this before?

Its been a long time since I have been here, but I have a problem... My rooster, "Forest Gump", has been crippled since hatching. His legs were splayed, his toes were curled, and I had no idea how to treat it. Thankfully, after doing a bit of research, I found out how to make "hobbles" to get...
