    Postmortem...

Thanks for your kind responses... I did not do a necropsy, I just buried her. I’ll never know for sure, but she was cared for and loved to the very end. She had excellent nutrition and I hand fed her daily. I suppose it may not have been enough, but she did eat well. She was her usual...

    Postmortem...

Sad day...I found my boss lady, follow me everywhere, personality plus Velcro dead this morning in the coop. While not surprised, it makes me very sad. Velcro was a barred rock, 6 years old going on 7. She had recently molted and did not seem to be bouncing back. Despite extra nutritional...

    Egg color change?

I'm sure y'all are right...it doesn't make sense to me otherwise. I have a Cochin that lays smaller brown eggs when she's laying...somehow she must be sneaking in when I'm not looking. The barred rock lays large eggs and the buff, Delaware, and red sex link aren't laying yet (20 weeks...or...

    Egg color change?

Okay, I can't be positive but my EE (5 years old) is the only hen going to the nest box right now so I have to suspect her. She has always laid big beautiful greenish blue eggs. It's been a very hot summer and molting season. For the past week I've been find much smaller pinkish brown eggs...

NOT an emergency, but watery poop...

I'm seeing this kind of poop frequently the past couple weeks. All chickens are very active, eating, drinking, pooping regularly, laying (if old enough), etc. I've looked through poop with magnifier, do not see anything moving (not scientific, I know) or anything weird other than water ring...

    Is this poop normal?

Poop Inspector General, Sir (Ma'am?), if I may post my own "what's up with this poop?" pictures... I'm seeing this almost daily for the past couple weeks. May be just one chicken but I don't know which. It is summer, but it's not that warm yet. Everyone is acting normally, looks good...

Irvine, CA help with coop please!

First of all, thank you for your responses and advice....I so appreciate your help. Let me know if more pictures, measurements or any other info would be helpful. Keep the ideas coming...I have to salvage this coop! I have six chickens so I'm sure two roosts would be sufficient. The problem...

Irvine, CA help with coop please!

Here's the coop. It's made by chicken saloon. The main problem is they will NOT roost in there. I think they don't have enough room to fly up. The roosting bars tip out easily (the roosts just rest in the brackets) and they seem to have a hard time settling on them when I put them up...

Irvine, CA help with coop please!

Thanks for the advice...I will take pictures tomorrow and post them. My poor chickens...they're all mad at me now for ruining their lives :P

Irvine, CA help with coop please!

If there are any chicken experts in my area (Irvine, CA), I would love a consultation. I've got a new coop that just isn't working out and I'd like someone to come look at it and help me figure out what needs to change. Of course I'll be happy to pay a reasonable fee for the service. I regret...

    Ringnecks are suddenly fighting

I rescued a damaged dove about a year ago. The vet examined it and said it was a female. A week or so later I got another female from a dove rescue. They have always gotten along well...lots of bow cooing and mounting though, and no nest or eggs, so I suspect they are both males, despite the...

Does any one use ivermectin in chickens ?

Okay, I've ordered the Valbazen...$25 for 60mL including shipping. I sure wish I could get it locally but I called half a dozen feed stores and none of them have even heard of it. Makes me a bit nervous...but I trust both BYC folks and my own research. If I recall, each hen gets .5cc in the...

Does any one use ivermectin in chickens ?

Thanks dawg53....now, where to find it? I'll call my feed store when they open but if they don't have it, I'll have to find it online. I tried jeffersvet.com as suggested by someone elsewhere but that's just a compilation page of sites. Is there a better address for "Jeffers"? And should...

Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Hi all...just a quick check in to see how everyone is and to ask a question. I know there are many long threads dedicated to this, but I prefer to ask my dependable little group here. What have you used for internal worming? I may have a case of gapeworm...well, not me, it's Lacey my silver...

Does any one use ivermectin in chickens ?

Good grief...I have read most of this thread to help me decide what to use to deworming my hens and all I got was more confusion. And more when I hit the internet. Not interested it mites and lice, just gapeworms and such. I only have 5 hens and I have been leaning towards ivermectin pour...

Rescued ring neck dove...newbie needs advice!

Thank you all for your responses...as I expected from Backyard Chickens, you've been immensely helpful. Jak, I especially appreciate your advice and pictures. I do have a dove rescue close so it will be easy to get a companion for him. Yes, I am keeping it...I figure he came to me for help...

Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

That picture of the hatching chick with shell stuck on its head has had me chuckling all day:D My hens are laying again! Four out of five molted and we'd get maybe one egg a day for a couple of months...now we're averaging four a day with frequent everyone in the pool days. I have suffered no...
