Okay, I can't be positive but my EE (5 years old) is the only hen going to the nest box right now so I have to suspect her. She has always laid big beautiful greenish blue eggs. It's been a very hot summer and molting season. For the past week I've been find much smaller pinkish brown eggs (and no blue green ones) when she leaves the box! They appear to have a hit/miss lighter spray paint coating I tried to show in the picture. Is this even possible? I have to think it's another hen but none of them have resumed laying yet...she's the only one I see in the box. Seriously puzzled.

I would not think there would be that drastic of a color change. I have a mixed breed girl who's eggs go from pale pink to white. But never a completely different color family.
What other breeds do you have? That could give you a clue as to who could be leaving your mystery egg.

Not likely.....there are white shells and there are blue shells, brown coating makes brown or green eggs...eggs shown appear to be white shells.

Tho the blue color can fade at the end of laying cycle(in fall before molt).
If you break open egg, immediately remove white membrane inside, and put inner shell on white paper you'll see some blue.

Those birds can be tricky in and out of nests, unless you park and watch for hours to catch them who know who dropped that one<shrugs>

I'm sure y'all are right...it doesn't make sense to me otherwise. I have a Cochin that lays smaller brown eggs when she's laying...somehow she must be sneaking in when I'm not looking. The barred rock lays large eggs and the buff, Delaware, and red sex link aren't laying yet (20 weeks...or are they‽). I need a nest cam!!!
