She is no longer mine, I gave her to the friend as an older duckling thinking she was a drake to keep her drake company. At that point no quacking (obviously I explained introductions etc and actually duckling was definitely boss with older drake following her everywhere. Things have been manic...
My friends runner duck is now three months but was always the runt. Under the impression she was a drake (my fault as when they were little her peep didn't change for ages and my other girls had developed there quacks by that point so told her I thought boy unless voice changed which it didn't...
They are all hatched from mixed eggs from a very large flock so I doubt any of them is pure, but that's part of the pleasure for me in not knowing what I have hatched. I'm from England, in fact I actually from Dorking so at some point I really must own some silver Dorkings even if they actually...
Thank you Karen, her behaviour is pullet like but I just couldn't tell! It sounds like you have experience with the breed? I wont be breeding these as they are just my little backyard flock (4 of them, this one, grey one and the black and whie striped young cockeral pictured and my pretty Maria...
If that's the janoel I have the 96 model (ironic as I only tend to hatch 18 at most in one time), only problem I have is the water trays keep the humidity at 60 which is too high for me-i tend to put in some egg cups with water which brings it down to 40. Other than that I have been happy. Just...
Me too, its just baffled me as to why its not more obvious, the blurred black and white striped one in the background is 5 weeks and more obviously a too, is it normal for them to take this long to get bright red wattles etc? I don't have much experience with white Sussex so I'm loathe to cull...
I don't know if white Sussex are slower developing the red comb and wattles as have culled a few cockerals that were obvious weeks and weeks ago, this one I just can't decide!
Behaviour: more skittish like my hen rather than my other confident cockerals, vocal clucking no crowing as yet, can...
Disagree about assisting hatching as I have assisted when they are in trouble and have strong healthy chicks that were stuck in the wrong position. But I do agree about assisting hatching to soon. I have only had one chick attempt to hatch with an unabsorbed yolk, you are human we make mistakes...
Everyone has got so big, you can see the babies with poppet , jasmine and bean before poppet and the babies went to their new home. Flubber and daisy are moulting as you can see!
so how is Cody?
Black and yellow had the problems, now has a slight limp but otherwise happy! He and the yellow and poppet went to their new home yesterday which is gorgeous, lovely big pond and muddy puddles! Very sweet and happy!!
Seems to be funny uploading pictures so will show the others later x
He is so lovely! Such a pretty boy! Its funny how they impact on you. Have had some manic times recently as hubby wants to leave his job and set up his own business so its been very busy. Also have had a very ill duckling, it pipped midway in the shell facing down into the towel so it nearly...
Thats good, at least you can set your mind at ease. Glad you found her!
All doing really well, despite having chick buddies and poppet and jasmine are big enough to be there, Bean still prefers human company to anything else! Very affectionate madam (she has a honk quack thing going on so I...
They are very happy, pile out of their house every morning full of beans. I have just introduced my next oldext chicks out there, I have them in there but seperated by wire. They are little enough to get out and mix but small enough to be able to have a safe zone away from the big ones if it is...
