    Broody accept extra chicks?

It's just getting dark here in Ireland, so I will try tonight. Yaeh I realise that the 21 days is not a definite science & have had eggs hatch on 22 or 23 before. The eggs she was sitting on were sent next day delivery & I (mistakenly) thought this was the reason they failed. It's all a learning...

    Broody accept extra chicks?

Thanks, That's what I was thinking. She is a really good momma & has reared a few chicks over the last few yrs. She's usually very protective of her young ones, so as long as she doesn't see these little ones as a threat there might be some hope. I have a new hen just going broody today. I...

    Broody accept extra chicks?

Has anyone added extra chicks to a broody hen? My broody sat on 6 eggs & after 22 days I didn't think thay would hatch, so I bought 3 x 1 day old to give her. When I went to remove the eggs on day 24, 3 of them were chirping. They hatched but were very weak, so I kept under a heat lamp indoors...

What sex are my Cream Legbar chicks? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have 5 chicks just hatched this last weekend. I got from a fella who said they were all cream legbar (all eggs were identical pale green). As you can see they don't all look like CLB chicks. I got back to him & he said he's only got the one roo which is a CLB roo, but some of the eggs could...

    What breed?

Got another photo.. he has yellowy pink legs with a few dark grey/black scales just before the feet. Sunshine makes them look paler than they are. Thanks for all your comments.

    What breed?

Sorry I didn't get a notification & just seen this comment. No it's the only photo. Some one I follow on Twitter was trying to find out & thought I would ask on here.

    What breed?

Could anyone suggest what breed this fella might be? He's not mine, just asking for a friend.

    Saddle or not?

Thanks, I'll get her to look into getting one.

    Saddle or not?

A friend of mine has a hen in full moult & the rooster has taken a fancy to her & is causing feather damage as well. Should she fit a saddle on the hen or not? Saddles are usually very uncomfortable with new features coming through.

    What medication to give chicks?

No signs of any ailments in the chicks or the adult hens, thankfully. I am always giving fresh garlic, ACV & dusting with DE powder regularly. Thank you so much for putting my mind at rest, I was thinking I would have to dose the whole flock (all 12 of them 😄). Stay safe & well.

    What medication to give chicks?

Thanks for the quick reply. I have been feeding chick crumb since hatched thinking it was medicated, but after checking the bag yesterday It says it's Not a medicated feed. So now I'm looking for advice on what i could/should give them now at 10 weeks old.

    What medication to give chicks?

I have two 10 week old chicks & I have been feeding them on what I thought was medicated chick crumb. I was told it was medicated, but never thought to check the bag ( I know.. I'm stupid). So these chicks haven't had any medication whatsoever, & they have been let out free ranging most days...

    Brahma maturity

Thanks aart, No I didn't candle the eggs, it's always been a nice surprise when chicks hatch. For the past few years I have bought fertilised eggs because I didn't have a rooster, so I have always expected something to hatch, & had quite a good success rate. This yr I have Buster who is one of...

    Brahma maturity

Hi azygous, I realise this thread is a few years old, but it sounds like you could put my mind at rest. I have a Light Brahma rooster he was a year old on 5th June. He's been very amorous with most of my 7 hens, all assorted breeds of average size ie Leghorn, Sussex etc. One of the girls went...

    Poorly Chicken

I am pleased to say that this hen has recovered nicely. I seperated her from the others for a few days, she was eating & drinking fine, so just needed rest. I'm thinking now she might have suffered a shock of some kind.

    Poorly Chicken

Thank you Wyrop Rock & Eggcessive. Have checked for eggs & nothing within first 1- 2 inches. She did lay 2 days ago ( only girl to lay light green egg). Not too sure on poop, but think it was a bit runny. She was grand yesterday, out around the yard & field with the others, this just came on...

    Poorly Chicken

Found one of my girls this morning on the floor of the coop, have felt her all over & can't feel any broken bones. She just seems to have lost the use of her legs. She was fine yesterday & when I checked in the evening all chucks were on their roosts. I am wondering is she fell of the roost &...
