I have chukar and pigeons together with no issues. Have done this for a couple of years. I also have big pens with lots of room. 12 x 12 with 6 chukar and the rest pigeons. I have roosts for the pigeons up high and rocks piled for the chukar so there are no space battles for roosting.
Need some advice on the proper way to introduce new birds to each other. I lost a bunch (still not sure why) But have one male left. In another pen I have 10 that I hatched in June that I kept. Can I put the younger birds in with this male now or not? I hate to cull him. He has been wormed...
I agree! I can't post yet as I have not gotten mine! My person will have theirs on Monday. That what I was excited about to see ideas and pictures. Hopefully next time I wont wait until the end of the month.
So I gave the guy down the road some eggs to hatch. He had 27 of the eggs hatch and has previously hatched birds, I have also hatched eggs from these birds this year with no problems.
He says it seems like their legs were to long. they did fine and then would lay on their side and then...
Thanks for the link, I just read it. Also love your setters. English? I have Labs and a Brit. I got into quail for my dog training but also now have some to just keep around - I love the call and look of them. I am originally from NC but now live in Oregon. Was familiar with the bobs from...
So I have bobwhites, northern and ten reds. They have been together since last year. I have one male that looks like a Red with all of those characteristics EXCEPT it has a faint white line on his head like a regular bob. Two things; Does this happen often and do you think it would breed...
It is 90+ here right now. I work during the day but I check before work, when I get home and then again before dark. I get most of my eggs after work but not sure how long they have been there by the time I get home. But of course they are out during the heat of the day.
I was able to get Oxytetracycline HCI powder. Is this safe for quail and what would the dose be per gallon of water.
I have the meds here but cannot figure out dosage for sure.
I am getting quite a few eggs and have hatched plenty for this year. What are the rules for gathering eggs for eating? Daily more then once a day? Is heat and issue, etc. I have not tried eating them yet but have about 15 eggs in each pen over the last couple of days so it might be worth...
I have a pigeon sitting on a quail egg in a shoe box so when it hatches it cannot fall out. I will take it away at hatch time. I have a pigeon pair that seem to want to hatch anything! I think but by far do NOT know much you would do better with a pigeon, I think they can co habitate better...

I need to clean my incubator and have not done this before. Any recommendations. I want to get it cleaned and start a new hatch. This time with Cortunix, I just hatched bobs.
I went to get feed and all they had at this feed store was a medicated turkey feed. I was looking for non medicated.
He told me if you feed and medicated feed you can not eat the birds. Is that a true statement? I am on my second year with birds and my second hatch still have so much to learn.
I am curious as to what others are paying for feed. I just hatched some bobs and it seems feed prices have went through the roof since last year in my area.
I am in Oregon in the Willamette Valley and just paid $22.69 for a bag of gamebird starter non medicated with 28% protein. My husband...
