That can't be right I live in la county and know a shop that sells quails as pets, along with other birds like ducks and chickens. I think the shop is close to bellflower, ca. I'm not sure what the breed is though.
The oldest I've eaten at room temp is probably two days. But I'm sure eggs can be good for a month at room temp because of natural barriers, but I have the extra fridge space so I don't need to risk it.
Plus I'm a microbiologist and I've seen how quick mold and bacteria can grow at room temp...
As bad as it sounds I think you have to fight the duck and show him you are alpha. When my drake was acting up I pinned him to the ground and held him until he calmed down. He stayed away for a while, but I gave him some table scraps as a peace treaty and now he follows me around sometimes.
Why bother? If your hen doesn't start laying eggs in the nesting box and you can't find her eggs. She's just another mouth to feed. I'd eat her before she runs away. Unless that other roosters flock joins yours, my recommendation would be dinner. You can't go wrong with a full stomach.
Not sure, but sometimes my hens are moody. One day they'll follow me around and another day they'll be terrified if I walk by. Could be a bad day, maybe you need more bonding time.
They might see your backdoor as better. Mine like to stay by the backdoor too. I think they like the light, to look inside, be near or something. Bribing them with treats andthrowing some in their coop. I always got them to follow me back to there coop and train them without manually picking...
If you stick a snug collar on him, it'll quite down his crows and may stop him. I think they sell something on mypetchicken.com. I made a collar out of Velcro laying around the house and my rooster stopped or has unnoticeable quite crows now. It's suppose to stop the rooster from expanding his...
So one of my chickens cock-a-doodled this morning and tonight. I like the sound but live in the suburb so I put a Velcro collar on him. I don't think he's to keen about it. keeps walking backwards.
Dang bird better earn his keep and get to mating with one of my hens to hatch more chickens...
Sometimes I feel bad about giving the birds chicken left overs but when I think about it, they always have access to their layers feed and can free range to find bugs, but they usually choose to eat the left over chicken. So I'm not forcing them, it's by the chickens choice to eat chicken. :p
just because a news station says it doesn't mean its right. if they make it illegal to send live animals USPS businesses like mypetchicken.com would be out of business plus other hatcheries. this is a demostic issue not a postal issue. like others said its legal and the post office has strict...
I voted both but when I think about my wallet, the chickens lay eggs every other day and the turkey has a bottomless pit of a stomach. but I like the personality of both birds.
