Holy moly. 😉 i thought the ice bath or fridge was the resting. So , ice on way home, pop, cooler until joints move freely then ice for a day or two? 🤦♀️ I know that is how you feel, lol
Ok, i bring the meat home in ice. I just toss the meat in bags and then into tubs of ice for about a 15 min drive. Can I toss the meat into the pop cooler, still-in its bags for a few days or is it recommended to put them on ice for a few more hours and then into cooler until the joints move...
Oh my. I am really confused now. I thought they had to sit in ice for a few days and I thought I read where you had to add water to the ice, lol. Yikes. So I do have a pop cooler. Should I just bring them home in ice and toss in the cooler For a few days?
how you test the temp of the meat...
This year we are going to rest the meat in an old freezer we have. It is clean and I will clean it before hand . Questions though
Does the meat just get tossed in or should it be in bags?
then is this correct?
filling the freezer with ice AND water.
stirring them around a few times a day...
Thanks Killer! The lady that butchers ours uses fresh cold water in to stainless steel basins until you pick them up. So as long as the joints move freely and they are chilled will they be ok to put in cooler? I dont have enough coolers to put the birds in with ice for 24 hrs.
Do they have to be in an ice bath for 24 hours or can I put them in a upright cooler? Not a cooler that you can carry beer in, lol. A cooler that stores have for pop and such.
Hubby and I are having a debate. We have a shed that is 4’x8’. Inside height is approx 7.5’ with a slope to about 6’ if you put the chickens up and have their nesting boxes so they stick outside, how many chickens can fit in this? They free range all day everyday with the exception of maybe 2...
Nice set up! My coop is over 15 yrs old and it is slowly sinking, water every where when it was never there before. Was thinking of just doing a new one and husband thinks 40”x8’. I think it is way to small for 10-12 birds. My coop now is about 12’x14’. But I do love how you make use under the...
I was told the bears wont hurt the chickens unless the chickens wont let the bear near the food, which I doubt will happen. If you feed black oil seeds, bears love them. Keep them in a sealed container and make sure that the bear cant smell them.
I too have noticed a decline in quality of NCO. Lots of powder. So you are not alone.
I am in PA and to find any non gmo feed locally is impossible.
I am going to Tractor Supply and ask them if they know when they will be getting the soy free NB in. My luck, never. Lol
These look like the olive containers that they sell around here. I was thinking plastic would make the feed hot in summer months. Guess not?
I understand to have feed as fresh as possible. But when you have to order it and have it shipped one bag at a time isn't worth it.
I seen on Pinterest...
I am thinking of starting to order feed. It is best to get 10 bags or more for shipping discounts. Was wondering what you keep your feed in to keep critters out and to keep it from molding in the hot summer months.
I have a rooster I would like to get rid of. He was born at the end of May. I am not sure what kind he is, he is black but when the sun hits him he looks green, he has white feathers on the top of his head that are just all over the place, lol. I handle him every night cause he likes to perch...
