Hahahahaha...I know various Friesian / Andalusian crosses...I'll have to let their owners know that they have "Warlanders". There's a sweet mare at the stable I ride at that is a Friesian Andalusian cross. She's got a baby at her side from a Friesian sire. I'll have to take a closer look at...
I did chicken camp with Bob Bailey doing the chicken part of the day and that guy that had the book about clicker training for obedience competition (sheltie guy) doing the dog part of the day. I think this was back in 2000...2001...or so.
When working with chickens you learn pretty quickly...

Of course a lot of people actually are breeding horses for meat/human consumption, they just don't realize it ("Oh, but the slaughter houses in the US were closed down!") or they kid themselves that what they're breeding is so special that it will never end up in the slaughter pipeline.

The thing is, though, we don't each live in our own individual vacuums, reaping only what we sow. The 'it's my right to breed my animal' people reap, and the folks who work in animal rescue clean up the mess that's left behind...and there is a large mess at the moment. I'm sure...
For those interested in the topic, there's an oldie but goodie post up on Fugly today about some of the things you might want to think about before breeding a mare:

Yeah, the links are to an internet bulletin board...there is no "operation". To clarify, here is the mission statement of the board:

Yeah, just here to second jason_mazzy regarding the cycle that can happen. If the problem has just now started, you may be able to head that off at the pass with some diet changes. If you're comfortable with feeding raw bones, they can firm things up quite a bit and the glands end...

Yeah, I liked that guy too! There were some really good ones in this bunch; it'll be interesting to see how some of them turn out. As far as contributing, making a lifetime commitment to your horse is the best contribution you could make. If everyone did so, there wouldn't be a problem!
All of the horses from the kill pen for the February auction at the Enumclaw (WA) Sales Pavilion have been rescued, along with a few others that were just directly sold to the kill buyer. The threads with pictures and stories about each horse are here...
It took almost 2 months to get here, but my boy finally has himself a riding helmet! Thanks for the advice, we went with the Aegis Youth.
It fits him quite well on the smallest setting on the dial. Although now that I look at this image, I see that he's managed to push it a bit off the...
12 horses have been bailed out since I originally posted about this group. 6 are still waiting to be purchased. The deadline for these horses is Wednesday.
A really pretty grey quarter-type mare got added to this group since the auction. She's built like a tank, as they say...

I think it's very good to know your limits, space-wise, time-wise, and money-wise.
If anyone would like to make a donation to help bail out a horse, a coordinated purchase thread has been started by the rescue group Pony Up (http://www.ponyuprescue.com/). The thread is here...
Here's a list of who's still in the kill pen at the Enumclaw (WA) Sales Pavilion.

and here's a video:
With the exception of A1 - Older Brown Gelding, all of these guys were run through the auction yesterday without a...
I know you've been down this road before and haven't had good results, but I'd really recommend you try to find a good behaviorist to help you with this in person. I don't think it would be very responsible for anyone to give you advice on this type of issue without seeing the behavior first...
I rescue, on a private scale, animals in a location where there is no end to the stream of maimed, mangey, starved, etc that need help. With that being the case, we have to look at things realistically in terms of how much money we can put into one individual animal, in situations where many...
