Here's a list of who's still in the kill pen at the Enumclaw (WA) Sales Pavilion.

and here's a video:

With the exception of A1 - Older Brown Gelding, all of these guys were run through the auction yesterday without a reserve, and purchased by the kill buyer. They can be purchased before the 16th of this month (the prices are listed on each). Poor A1 was dropped off before the auction and just sold directly to the kill buyer. There are some pasture pets in the group, but some nice looking younger horses as well.

A Kentucky-bred TB mare, Show Ticket, http://www.pedigreequery.com/show+ticket, was purchased out of the kill pen earlier today for $325 dollars.

It's a sad world we live in. If I had room for every horse, dog, bird, and lizard that needed it.... and the money to properly care for them... I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I think it's very good to know your limits, space-wise, time-wise, and money-wise.

If anyone would like to make a donation to help bail out a horse, a coordinated purchase thread has been started by the rescue group Pony Up (http://www.ponyuprescue.com/). The thread is here:

http://auctionhorses.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=approved&action=display&thread=6389

If they raise funds, they will take one of these two horses:

http://auctionhorses.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=auctionhorses&action=display&thread=6350

So far it looks like they have $200 of the $500 needed.

12 horses have been bailed out since I originally posted about this group. 6 are still waiting to be purchased. The deadline for these horses is Wednesday.

A really pretty grey quarter-type mare got added to this group since the auction. She's built like a tank, as they say:

Surprisingly, a very nice 5 year old red quarter horse mare is still in the group:

Everyone thought she'd go fast but she's still waiting to be bailed out.

Most of the babies have been purchased, but there's still a very sweet 3 year old chestnut and white pinto stud colt available:

That is so wonderful! Some of those horses were very nice looking - in particular the paint with lots of white and his tongue out. It's so sad that they end up here. The ones that really break my heart are the older ones... They remind me of my retired guy and make me so glad that I've been able to make a lifetime commitment to him to give him the best life possible. I wish I had the financial ability to rescue and work with these horses now. I hope that I will have the ability to do that in the near future so that I can help give some of these horses a new chance at life.

Sounds like this operation is operating on a shoe string and a bleeding heart and more likely than not, very little to no money to feed or care for them. Who will feed the horses next week... next month ? The reality is... Like jumping from the frying pan and into a fire. Last year someone abandoned a badly injured with open bleeding wounds ,about 2-3 year old intact , probably a QH colt into my pasture with 6 of my open mares ( thankfully they didn't get bred) by cutting the fence. My total cost... 4months of feed, , stall, vet bill, attorney fees, court costs, newspaper adds, etc to finally give him away for free... $ 2300. There is a cattle rancher near our place . His ranch is 10,000 acres in the Sierra Nevada mountains. On His last count there are now 23 abandoned horses ( some with their halters still on ) on his place. They are breaking into his fenced and tarp covered hay stacks and eating his hay reserves for his cattle. He is now in the process of rounding them up taking photos of each one, then he has to go to court , so that he can legally take them to auction. I got stuck with one last year and I had to pay $2300 , I don't know what this rancher's final bill will be. Who will volunteer to pay our bills ?

Yeah, I liked that guy too! There were some really good ones in this bunch; it'll be interesting to see how some of them turn out. As far as contributing, making a lifetime commitment to your horse is the best contribution you could make. If everyone did so, there wouldn't be a problem!
