The thing about predators...they always come back...
We are almost certain dogs, lost, stray, wild dogs. 8 years there without one single predator problem. She has a window air conditioning uniit so she heard nothing. They are in a large unsecured coop which was enough until this happened.
Warning: horrid pics of chicken massacre. Unknown source of destruction so far. Lost half the flock of approximately 100.
My friend woke up to this, has had chickens for years without one single problem.
Hardly any eaten, only one in whole, and some of tje egg production areas of other...
I wish I would have seen this sooner. Sorry I missed this. It is a little bit hard. On the heart too. So very sad. I've heard to use a humidifier, those new ultra sonic ones with colloidal silver. At the farmers market there's a booth that sells the colloidal silver stuff. Both barton...
I used straw until a chicken died from impacted crop after eating a bit of straw and having it clog tbe crop. Not trying to sound like a downer, juat sharing.
The last 15 months has been a great fail in chicken keeping. My baby was born and one night the coop was left open and that's how it all began. From then on there have been daytime attacks, break ins, and reinforcement and somehow more break in. It's hard on the heart. Lesson learned...
We have moved and if she makes it we are building it with hard wire and fixing everything that was wrong. The last one had added hard wire on the bottom half.
An racoon attack, killed my beautiful lavender Orphington named valentine. Only the red Orphington left. Ripped her crest almost completely off. We moved and neighbors were watching them until we built new coop. The racoons ripped into coop from top, it seems. Small entry but is all I can...

"they" are not so smelly but their coop sure can be especially after rain. Other cons… attract rats and mice, mosquitos. But they are such sweet creatures and they eat the bugs, maybe even the fleas because I haven't had a problem since, and they really are entertaining. Keep them safe and...
We had a real cold snap here in Texas. By 4pm after the night before with freezing weather and a windy night she'd just had it. I feel I made a number of mistakes, make sure you don't. Number one, when I noticed the hard wind late night I should of went out and made them go in the little...
I believe raccoons have taken two of mine this week. One Monday and one Friday. How do they run off with them? Still alive or do they kill them first. I'm hoping there was no suffering. Sunday Night my husband forgot to lock them. I counted on him since my newborn of was 2 weeks at the...
Mystery Solved. Almost 3 a.m. and the evil culprit give themselves away. Racoon. They are messing around on my back porch tonight making all kind of noise. I go out to see and chase them off. I look over balcony and see the remains of my chicken. Loads of her feathers and even a piece of...
now that I have researched more, maybe only the head was eaten because the amount of feathers there would of been of the eaten one would have been much much more eaten under the tree. Maybe ate the head, left the beak, and ran off with the rest.
Here is my new worry. Been checking on the...
