So who here sells eggs? How do I get a Nebraska egg code number? How do you label your eggs? Do you candle every single egg,no eggs, or just one here and there and assume the rest are the same?
So on my last batch of chicks I was supposed to have 2 welsummers (straight run) and a brown leghorn pullet. I thought I had a pullet and a roo welsummer and a brown leghorn pullet but nowe the one I thought was a welsummer rooster has whitish earlobes which would mean leghorn, right? I'm...
Reproducing an air pocket, a sterile environment, and humidity would be easy in a lab. How to reproduce the chick pecking its way out is a good question!
I'm sure others have seen this as it's been all over the internet, but I just saw it and can't find a thread on it. It's totally cool, but at the same time kinda freaks me out! Watch the video though, very interesting!

Hello, finally someone else from Western Nebraska, let alone the Panhandle! OrganicFarmWife, the biggest Town near Minatare is Scottsbluff which is way out west. Closer to Utah than we are to Omaha.
Chris, how do you determine "energy amount"? I mean, I realize that fat would have a big part but what else? Also what grains do you add? Besides scratch grains, I've only seen cracked corn and oats around here (although I haven't really looked).
Ron, I've looked at everything available around...
OK, from what I understand, the main difference between all feeds besides layer is the protein percentage. Layer has calcium, but the rest (starter, developer, grower, flock raiser, meatbird, gamebird, etc) just differ in protein. Now I know different brands have different levels of everything...
Got some work done on the run over the weekend. Took Aart's advice and went ahead and covered the HC edges now instead of waiting. Makes it look better (Yes, I still need a couple 2X6's on the backside) but definitely makes it more secure!
Slowly but surly, it's coming along! I'm...
The MINIMUM rule of thumb is 4 sqft per chicken in the coop and 10 sq ft per chicken in run, but it really depends on a long list of factors. More is always better!
