    Chicken Spreadsheet

I've been working on my chicken spreadsheet for awhile now and I wanted to share it with everyone. I am not sure about the file host but if you uncheck the download manager tick box then it will download the xlsx file. I created it in excel so I am not sure what kind of compatibility you are...

Is mating a reliable sign of a hen starting to lay.

I'm sure it does. I think I got lucky. It's 20 weeks and she is still the only one to lay. I've got another hen starting to squat so I'm hoping to start getting more eggs soon.

    fresh eggs

Put them in a streamer for 15 to 20 minutes. I've never seen eggs peal so quick. Make sure to put them in cold water once they are done. It keeps the yolk beautiful.

Is mating a reliable sign of a hen starting to lay.

I've tried to find a good discussion on this but so far I haven't had any luck, forgive me if it is out there. I have a flock of hens and one definite rooster. All the girls are between 15-17 weeks of age. My cochin has become receptive to my roo and started mating today. Is this a good sign...

    Pheasant Chicken Hybrids

After all the drama I'm really interested in some pictures as well. I'd also love to see what the results of your linebreeding produced.

    Decrowing Roosters.

Very interesting. I think it is a valid option for people who need it due to situation. My only concern is that many city laws are about roosters in general and not about noise. If this catches on then I'm sure laws could change to reflect. However, I'd hate to see someone spend money only...

    Welsummer died, I'm a rookie

Ugh, there is so much if this I don't know but I can try with a few things and hopefully others will add stuff as well Water, with a system like that I could see how it might get dirty so I suppose there might have been something there. Earwigs are a favorite of my chickens but keeping food...

    Help!

Hi from Yakima:D I'm sure you can find someone that will have a few chickens. Keep in mind your winters can be pretty rough up there but I think a chicken will be mature enough to handle it. I would take a look on craigslist and call around to your feed stores. You might also think about...

    Now here's a new predator!

In my experience cougars are generally afraid of a dog. It was once the standard way to hunt them but it is illegal (at least here in Washington). The side effect is that the cougar population has exploded without being thinned out and now they there are tons of attacks. If the cougar got it...

    Pheasant Chicken Hybrids

I can understand the desire to keep a breed pure but most lines were a hybrid once. If this destroys flocks then free ranging birds is a problem. If it can happen in captivity then it can happen in the wild. There are ring necks in the orchard behind me and I let my rooster out often, like...

    Help! Can hens crow?

If I were close and didn't have a rooster I'd take him :-) I love the sound of a rooster crowing. Glad you found him a home!
