We are about to purchase some acreage in Spokane, WA and I really want some baby chics. They tell me here its to late to buy them! Can anybody help me? What about mail order? Not sure what to do? Please help as I do not want to wait until next spring!

Hi from Yakima:D I'm sure you can find someone that will have a few chickens. Keep in mind your winters can be pretty rough up there but I think a chicken will be mature enough to handle it. I would take a look on craigslist and call around to your feed stores. You might also think about buying some pullets which should be fairly mature by now, but will cost more. Last I heard our co-op still had some chicks but I don't know if they still do. Mail order is always an option but I would make sure to read up on the best ways to handle that if you choose to do so.

go to "Where am I, where are you" to locate your state thread and post on it. There is always someone on the Washington thread that has new chicks or older birds they want to sell. You could find those closest to your area and maybe be able to even drive out and pick them up without needing any shipping.

If you know what breed of chicks you want - you could post on the breed thread and say what area you are in and what you'd like to buy.

Congratulations on your new home. Check out the 'Washington' thread and see if you can locate some local birds for sale.
