    Looking for SQ red silkies

They aren’t bad they just tend to focus on quantity over quality, so they don’t really breed their birds toward the SOP (Standard of Perfection) of the breed like breeders do. Breeders are trying to improve the breed. In my opinion most hatcheries are just trying to make money, they don’t care...

    Looking for SQ red silkies

Hatchery birds are usually not the best. If you want show quality definitely buy from a breeder! Hackle Haven looks to have some really nice silkies.

    Marans

The chicks of BCM are very fluffy. The quality of the picture isn’t good enough to distinguish the comb. This definitely looks like a Marans to me. The only thing I see wrong about the chick is feathers on the middle toe, but as I’ve mentioned they do change a lot so they could very well disappear.

    Marans

So you’re telling me the only reason you think they aren’t Marans is because they have yellow/orange legs?

    Marans

Chicks change a lot. If they have orange or yellow legs when they are chicks doesn’t mean they will have orange or yellow legs when they are adults. It also doesn’t mean they aren’t purebred. Actually some of my Marans did have orange legs when they were chicks and now they have slate legs just...

    Marans

They are very cute! I love when Marans have a lot of white patches on them when they are chicks! Like the first picture one. ♥️

Would the silkies be pure bred or a mix?

    Marans

Where in the SOP does it say that chicks feet must be pink? Or a pacific color?

    Marans

Marans chicks can and do have those color of feet. These do look like Marans to me.

Where to get barley for fodder?

Your local feed store might have it. Mine does. Also wheat is probably the way to go for fodder in my opinion. Barley seems more finicky and gets moldy easier. Yeah health food stores are going to be really expensive. Here in Texas I got a 50 pound bag for $14.00 at my local feed store. Call...
