im no expert, but my chickens usually start to look like roosters around a month. Every once in awhile I have one that really confuses me, like my cuckoo maran did (she is my BEST layer and I'm so glad i didnt rehome her when i was convinced she was a roo lol)
My roosters began crowing...
will do! there is literally no comb growth at all so im feeling optimistic. it was the same for my de uccle/silkie mix pullets- no comb at all at this age.
She actually did roll it into another nest. Baby is fine and with other chicks and mom now :) it looks almost exactly the same as the other EE baby.
The pipped egg hasn't hatched yet... Been pipped all day.
another has hatched and the last pipped. All 4 were for sure fertile which was a surprise. I counted eggs and there were only 3 this morning. My other broody hen took an egg this morning, so naughty
does anyone here have any fertilized eggs in western washington? I'm in Olympia and I have a broody girl i cant get out of the nesting box. im thinking about submitting
I know this is stupid, but I really want my original broody hen to raise these babes. This is the second time shes gone broody but the first time I've given her some chicks.
I guess I will just lock the other chicken out for a bit and see if she moves on.
And I went out this morning and found a SECOND chicken in the nest with her. I pick up this other chicken and under it is one of the chicks. I had put a board up along the box last night but i guess she got in anyway. I removed her and she is FREAKING out. Should I just let her in and see if...
I would say our low temps right now are 30 degrees at the absolute lowest.
Are chicks able to get up and down such a high ramp? Would it be more safe to have a smaller more private ground level coop for awhile?
