I just hatched 14 of these today and 12 Alsterier. I can't wait to see how they color. I bought my eggs from CluckandCrow on eBay and had an 80% hatch. I already have 2 GDW Cockrels and 1 pullet.
I do plan to start all over with different stock for selling purposes. I no longer have a rooster so these hens will be put in a separate pen and not bred. However I may still use RED my favorite hen as a broody. I am only hatching the few because she was already sitting before I caught the...
Actually I may not because I gave my parent stock to a friend. I do have some siblings but they are feathered and about 6 eggs from parent stock in the incubator and 8 under the broody. The broody I know carries the gene. I only kept her because she is my favorite hen. I know where the others...
I never thought about it until this happened...so glue boards and traps from now on. I never figured on my birds eating or pecking mice...my dogs I worried about because they are nosey so I put it where they couldn't get it....I didn't think about the natural food chain between birds and mice.
My bantam is broody now!! I noticed her pecking a few eggs and then rolling them like she was counting them. When I took a few from the lower nest she pecked those like "hey thats mine!"
I am sad to tell everyone Streak, Buff, and Naki passed today. It was an accidental poisoning. I had a mouse in the house and put out poision , I never thought about the mouse going to the chicken bowl as a water source. Well it did and I had 3 dead birds and a dead mouse in the box. They had...
AHHH yes that would be a cute name. I only have two more bantam eggs in the incubator and that will be it from them. my sis-in law is going to take the whole flock of feathered bantams. I am keeping my naked babies. The others will be her pets.
Ive got ducks in the incubator. I ordered a lot of eggs and the seller sent me nearly a dozen Long Island duck eggs. I have a small pond so I hope they hatch. Ive never hatched and ducks before so this should be fun.!!
[/IMG] Buff , streak, and Naki are growing well and making a shambles of the brooder box. I think streak likes to play games because he is always putting paper in the drink bowl. However, he is good with all the new hatches. He is now about 3 months old and loving his family.
No we don't need anymore. The 3 are enough. We are worried about survival once we move them outside. Hubby is working on an insulated pen for them. However, he is not convinced that they still won't freeze this winter. Right now they are still in my brooder room in the house under lamps. Streak...
Well I am convinced that something genetic is going on. I now have 3 baldies. I also know the source so one of my hens will be moved. She is my roosters sister. I tracked the boy I bought them from down. So apparently brother sister breeding does make a difference.
I have chick with this same type of deformity. Just hatched earlier in the week...is he gonna be ok?? He seems healthy other than the protruding sac of fluid. he does seem a bit smaller than the others. I was wondering if it will absorb on its own or should I attempt to drain it?? Please let me...
They are both Cochin bantams and they both have sprouted some fluffy wing feathers but not really feathers. They will probably not ever sprout full feathers.
