Those birds are gentically feayherless, you will probably hatch more like that.

Actually I may not because I gave my parent stock to a friend. I do have some siblings but they are feathered and about 6 eggs from parent stock in the incubator and 8 under the broody. The broody I know carries the gene. I only kept her because she is my favorite hen. I know where the others are at though and its a good fried. Her kids loved the little bantams so much so I rehomed them to be pets.

Even though the siblings are feathered, doesn't mean they don't carry the same featherless gene of their parents. If you want to get rid of this gene, you must start with an entire new gentic group. Sounds like you will have more featherless wonders pop up in the future. Some people will pay big money for them!!

I do plan to start all over with different stock for selling purposes. I no longer have a rooster so these hens will be put in a separate pen and not bred. However I may still use RED my favorite hen as a broody. I am only hatching the few because she was already sitting before I caught the fact that she had a clutch. She laid behind the actual nest. I reckon she got tired of me stealing her eggs. the others my niece loved them so I decided that she could have some. I have mainly had hens hatch from these guys. so I am not so worried about the scaleless gene coming back out. However if it does I will love them like I loved streak!! I miss him I use to go back to the room every night and talk with him while I checked my eggs and fresh hatches. He was really good with fresh hatches always protecting them. He will be missed.

Everyone should think twice when they start to reach for chemicals. There is always a way to fix problems without risking health.

They do find a way into our hearts, don't they. It hurts to lose them.
