I would not use DE and risk the bunny inhaling it. I would also not plan a monthly treatment. But treating the mites has options. First, Ivermectin will clear them up if you want to medicate. The cleaning is good, but sometimes they will show up in hay or however. Keep an eye out for...
I will disagree with the statement that you must keep a pair. Rabbits are not necessarily social, and they fight. I realize that sometimes pairs will bond, but I think that's more the exception than the norm. And for fixed animals.
What is your purpose for your new bun? Pet, breeder, show...
I agree with the 8 wks recommendation. I just started weaning my latest litter at 6 wks, but wouldn't sell for a couple more weeks to make sure they adjust.
It would also be helpful to know the breed for other recommendations. My 10-12 lb silver fox are treated differently than my daughter's...
Hey All,
I'm trying to pre-register for my second show, but I don't have my SOP book yet and have a question. Deadline for show entry is 10pm this evening, and it is pre only. No day of show entries.
I have four thirteen week old junior Silver Fox to enter. They all weigh between 7 & 8 lbs...
Ditto what Bunnylady said. I would guess ear mites rather than infection.
I have not used the antibiotics, as I choose not to with my meat rabbits. I use mineral oil with a bit of tea tree drops. It will work if you use enough, and if you keep the schedule up. If you don't get all the eggs...
I am so not an expert here, but I'm not sure it's good for rex fur to bath. I seem to think I've been told that it will matt terribly. I would spot clean instead.
You're attributing the characteristics of your giant breeds to a dwarf breed, and are not sharing accurate information. Smaller rabbits can and do breed earlier, but there is variation. Larger breeds can be physically capable of breeding at younger age, but especially for the does many hold...
She is doing fine. I took the wrapping off a couple days ago, and it doesn't seem to bother her at all. It's still swollen, but hard. She doesn't flinch or show any signs of discomfort when I pinch or move her toes as I check. I don't feel anything that would lead me to believe it's infected...
Little bit of a thread hijack. At what age does anyone stop worrying about temps? I breed year round (SF) in my garage. When temps are cold, I just bring the nestbox in.
My recent litter is now 10 days old. Doing well, but on the smaller side as there are ten kits. Debating on bringing them...
Two days later it's still swollen. Doesn't look any better any worse. It didn't seem to bother her when I was checking it out, so not seeing any signs of infection. Wrapped it back up, and moved her to a slightly larger transport carrier.
Hey all,
So I think one of my does broke one of her back toes today. Had her in with a buck, and the toe got caught in the wire bottom, she was trying to shift and free it, but the oblivious buck wasn't helping. I heard her whimpers and pulled him off, then was able to back her up to free the...
I just didn't think to specify. I love them as meat rabbits, however they have a thick, 1 1/2" black coat, which is why I hesitated to compare or fully recommended to a different climate.
