What Color is this Jumbo Coturnix?
Can anyone help me ID this Jumbo Coturnix color? It is only about a month old, and I don't know whether it is a male or female. Definitely a lighter/redder color than my Pharoahs. -
How Cold Hardy are Jumbo Coturnix?
I am in zone 5. Our average coldest night of the year is -15, but some years we get to -20 or even colder. How much protection do Coturnix need? Can they survive outdoors with a run-in shelter, do they need a completely enclosed coop, heated coop, or do they need to be indoors for winter? -

Problems with Brinsea Incubators
I have two Brinsea Ovation 56 Ex incubators that are one and two years old. When I first got them, I was getting decent hatch rates (maybe 80% of fertile eggs). Welsh Harlequin Age
Thanks for the tip! When I picked up each one I could tell some were noticeably heavier without even putting them on the scale. I also noticed some of them still had more of a chirp than a croak. I have them sorted into what I think are adults and juvies. -

Swedish Duck Colors
Maybe that is what is going on. This one is 5 years old and I did not get her until she was a few years old. My other blue females are all much younger and look more like your typical blue in coloring. Thanks :) -

I have a breeding pair of Swedish that are penned separate from any other ducks. The male looks blue... The female looks like a Splash... Their ducklings should be 50% blue and 50% splash with no blacks, but this is what I got... 2 blues and a black. Someone must not really be the color... -
Is it true that poultry lice can only live for 1 week in a vacant coop?
Update on my lice situation: I hatched new chicks and put them in housing that never held adult birds. I got rid of the old birds, cleaned out the coop and sprayed it with organic spray, then a dusting of DE. The coop sat vacant for a whole month before I added the new birds. Color Genetics Question!
I just did some research and while the blue/black/splash colors of Bresse also carry the recessive white gene, white Bresse like I have are normally dominant white. It sounds like penning up the other breeds for a few days is the best option. Thank you for your help!- Cimmaron

Update: All of the turkeys survived negative 30 degrees last night! I took away the poles they were roosting on and they all chose to go inside their shelter for the night. Although it is open on one side so not really any warmer, they at least had protection from wind and snow. We have a few... -

They are heritage. Some roost on a metal pole that is completely open in the elements. The others roost on a stack of hay bales right next to their shelter. -
