    Impossible to peel eggs.

I found this trick accidentally , but it seems to work. After I hard boil the eggs and put them in an ice bath I dry them then put them in a large zip lock bag in the fridge. They peel like a charm the next day.

    Relentless Hawk...Help!!

Hawks are migratory and this is when the move to warmer climates. I have found this is when I see the most hawks harassing my birds. Just keep the chickens penned for a few more weeks. It seems to me that the migratory birds are looking for a quick meal.

    The Sussex thread!

I have had chickens for 4 years, some of my girls are getting older and I am ready to add to the flock next spring. I have fallen in love with Speckled Sussex (actually love the light also, but since we free range I am afraid they would be too easy a target)and would love to find a breeder...

I just got a call and my DE is in. Guess I will know how much it is tomorrow. The only other place in Hardin Co. is the mill and they sell it by jugs for around 15.00 (not sure how much they weigh) Rineyville Feed could order it for 50.00 a bag so to me 32.00 a bag is better. I am splitting...

I think I have found a source for food grade DE in Hardin County. Cecilia Farm Services said that they could order a 50 pound bag for around 32.00. I think if more of us asked they would stock it all the time.

    HELP! I have chicks!

CONGRATS You will find these chicks to be the healthiest you have ever raised. Not to mention smarter (well maybe not smarter as chickens are none too bright) but more aware of things around them. They will feather faster and be outside in just a few days scooting like waterbugs. They will...

Why Can't Chicks Grow Up Naturally?

I have brooded chicks in a brooder and have had hens raise chicks also. I have 5 chicks right now with a hen, the chicks are a week old. Normally in KY the fall is warm until late October so I thought OK just one more time. Yep you guessed it, it has turned chilly. The babies are out...

Quote: We are also in AL/ Ideal is good and not too expensive. I like buying from a hatchery because I can order only pullets if I want to. Shipping is not too high with them. They will do a 25 dollar...not 25 chick order. Also, have you tried the Al thread on here? It is...

Picture of the new babies, I had 6 out of 8 shipped eggs hatch. The hen is a Black Wyndotte and the chicks are BCM's. Momma is so gentle she lets me sit in the pen and pick up the babies, she will walk over to let me scratch her neck.

It hatched against all odds!Pics added

Great story can't wait to see pictures.. After the first year of chicken raising I have discovered that Chickens are very hearty. They have been doing this for ever without help. As long as I feed them a good quality feed and make sure they are healthy they pretty much do it on their own.
