Mostly, I am posting to "subscribe," BUT, with eggs in the incubator... perhaps a few questions while I'm at it...
While I'm familiar with breeding to a standard (dogs, poultry, etc) in general, I am aware enough to know that there are quite a few breed-specific (& LINE specific)... well...
Well, he's been in with the others for more than 24 hours and while he is easy to pick out, they're not picking on him - though he gets run over a lot - and he's trying to keep up/imitate them! Maybe he'll pull through after all... it took about half a dozen attempts to integrate him before it...
Okay, chick taped up and in a cup... THAT is a strange statement!
She's surprisingly ******.
Meanwhile, the other 3 hanging out in the brooder... sleepy heads
The pedialyte seemed to perk her up a bit. And I realized she has a problem with her left leg. It's not stiff, but she doesn't seem to have much control of it and it sticks straight back like in the picture.
Update on #4: I got the stuff off, and it still seems weak, but maybe it's just a little behind.
If the goop was yolk sack, then it had ruptured bc it was just a hard, dry, orange glob when I removed it.
Thanks for the reply. I would still love to get any advice you might offer! A few specific questions if you have the time - and inclination - to respond:
What do you do with your culls? Do you sell some of the nicer ones as breeders?
Are there shows on the East coast that you would recommend I...
Advice please... I don't know if the 4th is gonna survive. It is still just laying around, often shivering as though it's cold. It has orange goop stuck to its but - looks like yolk - and some white stuff that looks like wet paper - maybe membrane?
I'll try to get a pic.
Thanks
Ugh, I'd prefer NOT to skin a cat... just sayin'! ;)
I keep hoping he'll jump in and offer some guidance, but it looks like I may have to go ahead and get the ball rolling more directly, lol.
Thanks! I'm glad hatching eggs to get started isn't completely forbidden. :) That being said, I haven't come across any just yet, lol.
Very pretty pullet! IMHO
I have 2 chicks, and 2 pips!
For those not hearing anything: the ONLY peeps I've heard at all were when #2 hatched. I'm loving these babies, lol. Are Brahmas known to be super quiet?
Ugh! Every time I try to quote and reply the internet crashes on me!
YAY on the power coming back on! You'll have to name them after Frozen characters.
Alicia and domestic(?), I didn't see or HEAR ANYTHING until the first pip! Actually they are still quiet!
Cynthia, yes they are shipped eggs...
