Thanks for the quick reply! I did some research on prevention and found one site that said what your dosage said, and another said to treat for 21 days!
Maybe I’ll put the Corid in my emergency cabinet for now.
Also, mine are kept in a 10x20 run all day, I don’t let them forage as we have...
My girls are all around 17 weeks. I haven’t seen any sign of coccidia, but it is a problem in the area as I understand. I have some liquid Corid and was wondering if it’s something people do from time to time as a preventative. If so, what is the dose and how long do you treat When you don’t...
I really like it. I have 11 birds and they fit comfortably. It’s easy to clean and it doesn’t seem too hot even here in Georgia. However I don’t shut the door at night, it’s inside a pen so we leave it open.
We have had a ridiculously wet spring/summer. Rain daily, and not just rain, gully washers! The run is just a mess. I brought home a bale of compressed Alfalfa/Orchard Grass. I was thinking of just spreading it in the run to see if it helps. I figure if they peck at it and eat the seeds and...
I inspected her yesterday. I see now evidence of mites her skin and feathers are all in stupendous condition. I brought home a canister of Poultry Dust so am adding that to the dust bath as a precaution. I’m starting to think it’s a neurological issue. I’m giving her a dose of Poultry Cell
I swear I answered this last night.
I think she can see fine, but I wasn’t really thinking that was an issue so may have missed subtleties in her behavior. I will watch her closely today to see if her vision seems off.
I got her in mid March. She hasn’t laid consistently since I got her. I brought home Poultry Dust and pour on ivermectin. I caught her and looked her over, not a mite to be seen. However, I was alone so had to do the best I cloud. My husband will be here tomorrow so I will be able to be more...
My brown leghorn just started this today or maybe yesterday. I tried to get video, but just like when you take the car to the mechanic it seemed to stop. But I think I caught it in this video, a weird head tossing thing. It’s at the beginning of the video.
Leghorn
I brought home a bottle of Corid today as it has been out of stock for quite some time. I figured since it was there I should get it and not wait until I need it and not be able to get it.
In a weird coincidence one of my hens was acting weird when I got home. Based on her symptoms it might be...
The protocol for chicks when they arrive at the store is to give them warm water with Hydro Hen in it. Hydro Hen has electrolytes and probiotics and gives them a boost when they are stressed. They get that for an hour or so and then we give them chick feed. I dug out a bag of the 24% starter so...
I work at Tractor Supply and we just got a surprise batch of baby Bobwhite Quail. The other person who works with the birds(and is knowledgeable about quail) is out until later today so I thought I’d check here. I put out the quail waterer. what should I use for feed? I don’t have any game bird...
I like to have stuff on hand ahead of actually needing it. I think I need to have some sort of antibiotic on hand as well as something for coccidiosis. I will probably have to order online as I know Tractor Supply no longer carries certain items.
Right now I have Poultry Cell, Poultry Veterycin...
I’m jealous of those of you who can leave your waterer alone for a week! I have to scrub mine every other day. The algae would take over otherwise. I’m looking into making my own as that seems to be a good option and not too difficult I hope.
My chicks are growing and the temps are rising so my small waterer isn’t cutting it. I want to upgrade as I hate the vacuum style waterers. I’ve never used the nipple or cup style so have no idea how to switch or how difficult it is. Which of these two styles is the easiest to train to and use?
Thanks for the quick replies. I live in Georgia so any dirt I dig up from my property will be Georgia red clay. So I’m sure I will need to add to it to create a dustier option. What would y’all add, if anything? I can buy peat moss or whatever would work.
Oh, and my flock is 10 birds.
