I had a single chick that did the same thing, he was the only chick that hatched though. I had to regularly walk near the brooder so he could see me but I tried not to lift him out too often. At night I did have to cuddle him to sleep though, every night for a good while he would sleep in my...
Sorry for the late reply. It was actually just an old piece of curtain that we cut 2 legs out of for the chicken to fit into then tied it to the top bit of a dog crate to hold him up, then made it more comfortable when it was in place.
I think the bandage looks perfect and as soon as 24 hours after you could remove it to see if its healed, slightly longer would be better though.
I dont see any heat which could be why she is cheeping as she still needs to be kept warm, also if shes lonely. Possibly give her a little mirror or...
We had a chick with a slipped tendon last year, he is now a fully grown, healthy cockerel.
Pull the leg back and manipulate the tendon back into position, you will feel it like a rubber band, when in place the leg will feel smooth. Then wrap the leg in this position and use a chick chair, we...
Baby kittens need to be kept warm, there body temperature is higher than a humans. If you have a heat pad or something similar lay him on top of it or cuddled up to it, an alternative i have used is a bottle filled with boiled water under a blanket and then laid them up against it. Once his...
Oh I am so so sorry, it's horrible when lose any of them. You tried your very best and sometimes these things happen with no warning. For the time she had she was loved and cared for so remember you did everything you could.
Poor thing, it is hard to know if you have it correctly placed, they are so small and fragile too. I agree with the advice, luckily you checked when you did so you can quickly fix it.
Ours was very wobbily at first stumbling and falling into things, it was hard not to hold him but he soon found his feet and within only a few days he was even jumping on top of the brooder plate to get out.
Good luck.
Anything as early as 24 hours you can try taking the bandage off and see how she does, but if she is not quite ready it can pop off again and you will need to rewrap it, some people do this anyway to see the progress. Chicks legs grow very quickly so every little bit of time makes a huge...
When you check the leg, you just want to make sure its not too tight around the top and the foot is not swollen at all, good way to check is to compare the colour, size and heat of it with the other one, as long as its the same its doing ok.
We made sure the feet werent touching the floor, just...
For our little chick with a slipped tendon we followed an article called a slipped tendon:one chicks story.
You need to gently pull the leg backwards into a straight position, gently massaging the tendon back over the hock, you will know when it is done as you will feel or hear a slight pop and...
We had a chick with a slipped tendon, we taped the leg straight after pulling the tendon into position( pull the leg backwards and push the tendon back over the joint, abit like a rubber band), then put him in a chick chair for 3 days with vitamins and b12. He is now a handsome 6 month old...
Oh I hope that everything works out and hopefully some more might be fertile aswell. I have put 6 eggs in before and waited the 7 days only to find they were all duds. Its so frustrating.
