I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would add to it for anyone else that may be searching.
I have been to an allergist, and have learned SO much. She says to swab your nostrils with vaseline before going out to the barn. Then you blow your nose when you come back in. In theory...
I found them a fabulous new home, just about 10 miles from my house. They can be free range, as they were at my house, and they have year round water and shelter. And a guard dog. Thank you for the advice, Captain Qwak, but my corral wasn't set up in such a way that I could build and...
I have 5 Rouens--1 male, 4 females. They are a little more than a year old. I raised them, and they have been laying since last summer. The drake is very....active. It's a good thing he has 4 girls in his harem.
I love my ducks, but they keep getting kicked by my mini donkeys. My geese...
That is so funny, Kuntrygirl! I'm glad you got pics of that, and shared them!
The goose egg shells are quite thick, and my turkey is not super heavy. I'm amazed that she's still laying elsewhere, then coming back to those goose eggs. That just seems so unnatural to me. And the goose comes...
I'm sure she will be confused when they hop in the duck pond!!
She's been on about 2 weeks now. And she's not budging! She's such a sweet and social girl that it's weird for her not to come running when I show up. She's dedicated, for sure!
Okay, so we have this very silly turkey girl, Ting. She is super social and everyone loves her. She is definitely the favorite for visitors, since she will let everyone pet her.
Last fall, we had a problem with her leaping over our 6' fence so she could perch on (and scratch) our cars. So...
She is a mix of something, got her from another BYC-er last Easter. I just love her color. Her personality is just fantastic.
She started laying last fall, so I knew she was a she.
We have the sweetest little girl turkey. We call her Ting, and she is absolutely delightful. She follows me everywhere and sits by me. My husband always picks her up and carries her around with him.
Lately, she's been displaying for us. She gets all puffed up, spreads out her tail...
I had a similar dilemma. My hen would "bound" over our fence, then up on to our cars. Not so cool.
I have a 6' no climb fence. I don't know how much you would have to add to the top of your fence to ensure they would not get over it. That would be a shame if you added to the top...but it...
Just wanted to post an update. My turkey "in heat" has started laying. So far, she has laid 3 eggs, one every other day. They are speckled, and rather pointed on one end. They are about the same size as my rouen duck eggs, as you can see from the picture. I had just washed them, so they are...
I have 5 ducks, 2 geese, and a turkey. The ducks have been laying quite a while. One of the geese has just started laying.
The turkey was born April 7th. I got him from JulieNKC. I believe it's a female. Her name is Ting. She's sort of slate blue colored, and quite big. She is super...
I just wanted to share my experience, because this particular thread gave me the answer I was looking for.
A little while ago, I wrote to a fellow BYC about my turkey, Ting, jumping my fence. Here is my email to her:
"Our fabulous little girl turkey is now a big girl, and we can't get her...
Oh, goodness, I get these kinds of emails all the time. I have a very small animal rescue, and I put these long, detailed biographies on petfinder, along with tons of pictures, only to have someone email with "how much?". Seriously?
I usually respond with something like this: "Hi. Thank...
Where are you? Here in Kansas City, there is a rescue called Kansas City Siamese Rescue. I know they have them other places, as well. Are you checking Petfinder?
I can't help but join in this thread. I have an animal rescue. A very small animal rescue. Here is a pit/lab mix that I bottle fed from 3 weeks old...
She is the sweetest little girl. Very attentive, responsive, and follows me around everywhere.
I am...
Hi Kacey!
We took our two baby goslings with us camping a couple of months ago. We kept them them in the camper at night, as well as when we were away from the campsite. I took a playpen-type pen, and they stayed in there both in and out of the camper. It was a mess, but I didn't mind. And...
