On the chick front we recently hatched out 14 chicks. We kept one and gave the others to my brother.
TODAY we are watching the next batch pip, zip, and hatch!
18 blue and green eggs. We are super excited. Pics to come!
oh Jesus! I ended up with 7 Roosters and 5 Hens!
I sold 2 roosters so far and looking to get rid of the other 4.
This will leave me with one easter egger rooster, one RIR hen, and 4 black marans.
A nice balance. Then I shall add some more. Kind of looking at the Wyandottes because...
More of my plumbing is now “dry fit”. As soon as it is all together I’ll give it the glue up.
I also need to drill a hole in the last post for a pass through for the spigot.
Built the platform for the rain water collection off the coop. More water for the chickens and the garden!
Once the weather clears I’m going to plumb it all together.
I used my router to cut out the entrance to the laying boxes.
Added a handle and locking mechanism.
We ended up doing this at just the right time as the oldest chicken started laying the other day.
I was finally able to put a lid on the litter box. I knew it would be this month that they started letting. One started laying very small legs. It is time they have their laying box available. Next to ad is a handle, lock, and some gas struts.
In the coop I currently have 8 of the 12 chickens on property. 3 RIR mixes, one Easter Egger, and then there are the 4 Black Marans. Inside the brooder the other easter egger and 3 gold comets are still growing (and at least one I think was crowing).
Below is the Easter Egger.
I took...
My count was OFF! Sort of. My brother collected these over a few days.
The score so far is 3 out and one pip!
The lone Easter egger and two golden comets!
I don’t know who needs to hear this but, hardware cloth is a two person job.
I did it with a speed clamp and it took me all day and half of my sanity.
I’ve now got to wait on the roofing to be found.
There were 4 definite winners so far. Some of the eggs were just too small looking, but I left them in just to see. Some of the eggs are SO BROWN and hard to see through and I am letting them stay in just in case as well. 7 days is all they have left until lockdown.
On a side note I went to...
Only 4 out of the first batch. All 4 were started in the Little Giants. The easter egger was finished up in the new one.
I have started the second batch in the newer incubator. Fingers crossed here! I do believe my brother's rooster is lazy, and since I'm not paying for the eggs I don't...
