Hi all
I have had 2 white stars die in the last few days, they started bleeding from their vent area, after looking on the Internet for similar symptoms it pointed towards a vent gleet so it advised to put acv in their water as it was caused by a digestive problem the other 15 chickens weren't...
Hi all
I've got a few new additions to my flock 1 bluebell and 5 commercial browns and this one but im not too sure on the breed?
Shes a hybrid from Country Fresh Poultry in Oswestry and is around 16weeks old, the person I got her off just got a random batch and didn't get told what all the...
One of my girls has laid their first egg its a soft shelled one! 🥚🥚
I found it under the jungle gym obviously I'll have to wait and see but if they carry on not laying in the nest box then would it be best to put some fake eggs in the nest box to try and promote them laying in there? 👍
My vote was for Speckled Sussex and SS Hamburgs as I've got a SS and she is really sweet and friendly and the SSH for no other reason than I think they look really cool! 👍
Just a quick update on how the chickens are settling in........
They are happy enough to feed out of mine and the kids hands and be stroked whilst on the jungle gym👍
Thanks
Tell me about it I'm in North Wales so it feels like it rains everyday 😂
The roof is just temporary I've got to get some box profile sheeting to make it completely watertight 👍
I think they are about 16 weeks maybe a bit younger because on 2 of them their combs are really small (Sussex Ranger and White Star) and the other 3 don't look like they even have a comb?
We all spent some time holding them and just being in the run whilst they were scratching about
I spent...
Thanks! I've also made a chicken jungle jim out of some old branches at one end of the run so they've got some outdoor roosts aswell (I'll take a pic of it when i get home from work) hopefully they will be happy!! 👍
Heres my coop and run
Its all fully enclosed as I've got hawks and red kites in my area so it needed a roof on it
The missus has just rung me and said shes let them out and they are having a good old scratch about 👍
Thanks I really missed not having any for the last 3 1/2years we will hopefully get some more later in the year still trying to persuade the missus to let me hatch our own 👍
Here's my new chooks sorry the pics aren't great
Here's Nora (Pied Ranger), Marie (Warren) and Lulu (Sussex Ranger)
Gracie lou (White Star)
And finally Matilda (another Warren) 👍😁
Thanks Malfean I'm at work at the mo so I've told the missus to let them out into the run in a couple of hours
I'll put them on the roost just as it starts getting dark later when I lock them up for the night 👍
My chooks have just been delivered and the breeder has told Mrs Jambo that they need to stay in the coop for 2/3 days which seems a bit long as when I had chickens before we kept them in the coop for 2/3 hours then let them roam about the run
They aren't going to free range they will be staying...
The coop is virtually done just a few little cosmetic things to be finished then its good to go!
Heres the feeder and drinker
And my removeable roost for easier cleaning
I dont think its come out too bad? 👍
I'm making my roost removable for easier cleaning and where its going to be located is right across the clean out door I'm going to have it about 2' off the floor but I'm wondering how far away from the wall they should be? Any advice anyone?
They will be virtually level but I can rotate the pipe if I need to, what do you reckon to the height tho?
That's the plan with the vents they will be open all year round (unless we have a ridiculously cold spell then I can shut them) and it eliminates rain getting in 👍
The coop is almost finished now just got to felt the nest box and food roofs then fit the roosts then its wiring the run
I've done the colour scheme so it matches my house
The feeder has 2 holes one side and 3 on the other, The waterer is next to the food I'm using horizontal nipples which...
