Oh, ok. My little flock ranges in age from 16 weeks to 19 weeks. Layer, I assume is fine for all? The lady at the feed store says not to switch until 24 to 28 weeks!
Today I found my 1st egg! Very dark brown with black speckles and perfectly shaped, but tiny! I took many pictures as this was almost as exciting as when the chicks hatched or when my rooster 1st crowed! I cracked the perfect little egg open and indeed it looked just like an egg.....except there...
I use a qtip with warm water to get it off. Then I dab it with olive oil so it doesn't stick as much the next time. I did this for about a week and she cleared up! Good luck;)
I can't say much as I am new to chickens. I can however say this post is sad! It has opened my eyes to something I never gave any thought to.
As far as a broken leg.....isn't there anything that can help it heal correctly? I am picturing popsicle sticks or some sort of splint type thing. I am a...
I recently had a chick with pasty butt. I had to clean her butt two times a day. I had read on here to put a little olive oil on her after washing off the poo (which I did) to help make the poo not stick to her. After a week it was gone. I didn't give her anything but water and medicated...
Ok.....I'm new, but to me it looks like a chick fetus with the yolk attached? I have read on here about hens laying eggs without the shell? Is it possible that she had a shellless egg and didn't pass it and it sortof cooked inside her? Just a thought!
Okay, my chickens (chicks) range in age from 4 weeks to 1 week. What age is best to start worming? I have read approx. 4 months courtesy of BYC. Although, I have also read on here 1 year and never!? Since mine are young, am I safe to assume they don't have worms and start with preventive...
having to worm my chickens! Does everyone do it? Do they all have worms? How do they get worms? It's kinda gross to think about! Should I just assume mine are going to have worms? Or that they already do?
I have a pasty butt baby too. She's 4 days old. I use qtips with warm water and soak the poo, then it wipes right off. I was also told (by many people on here!) to then put a little olive oil or mineral oil on the chicks bum. Makes it harder for the poo to stick! My babys pasty butt seems a lot...
I would wait it out. I have learned that a wiggling egg is the chick getting in position to hatch. I had wiggling eggs for 5 days before the hatch! Some days they were more wiggly than others!
Well I hand fed her some mush I made by smashing up her food and mixing it with warm water. She now has both eyes open. She is still pooping green though and it was covering her little butt. I cleaned her all up with warm water and qtips. Anyone know about the green poo? Is it normal? Or is...
Is my 1.5 day old chick supposed to have dark greenish poo? I know she hatched a little early because she had a pea sized opening on her belly and had a piece of shell still attached over night. I left it alone and by the 1st morning the opening was closed and the "string" and egg shell had...
#4 hatched last night. Yesterday morning it pipped, but it was a bloody pip. The little T shaped crack was red. I could hear it peeping, I decided to chip away the pip to see if I could expose the beak. I lost a little more shell than I wanted to. There was some blood, I took the egg and wrapped...
