What do you all do with Quail?

You would need to check your states division of wildlife. Most times it is illegal unless you have a license and certain criteria have to be met. Google your states Div of Wildlife and you should be able to find some answers. Kristi

    Floppy Comb

We noticed yesterday that the comb on one of our Barred Rock hens was flopping over to the side. She's six months old and been laying for about 2 weeks-last day she laid was Friday. She's eating, drinking and perky. Her comb is pretty much flopped over to the side. We had below freezing temps...

    White Egg

I get one on occasion out of my one pen that houses jumbo's and a tibetan. I think it's out of one of the jumbos cause it's big. It's mostly white- with a spot or two here and there. Weird but looks the same inside! Kristi

Chickens laying too soon; 2 dead already - Please Help

I was going to start a new post but this sounds similar to an issue we're having- as of this morning. Last night my 5 month old Golden Buff was fine- acting normal. Laid a large egg yesterday morning around 6 am. She will lay a large for a few days in a row and then lay these honking big jumbo...

    Pens in a Barn

Wow Jen!! Nice plans! Now I'm getting more ideas! OSUman....We don't have electric in the barn so run an extension cord for a light we have hanging right outside of the chicken run. My pullets are only 5 months old and I have two laying so the one light must be enough for the chickens at least...

    Pens in a Barn

We have our 4 chickens in a 5 x 15 dog kennel inside our barn.. We have a hutch in the pen with roosts inside and a nesting box. We do have the top tarped since the pen is near the door and on nice days I leave the door open for the birds to get sun and fresh air. I was afraid the hawks could...

how cold hardy are button and Coturnix quails

It was 12 F. here last time I went out to the barn. The Coturnix were fine. One even had the ambition to hop out of the pen while I was breaking ice out of the waterer. Silly bird. They do enjoy the little hay piles I put in the pens for them during the bad cold snaps like this one and the...
