Could you kindly point me to this thread? I'm starting to toss around ideas for a brooder box, I just don't feel like doing that to my bathtub again this year, lol, there are only so many times...
Thanks, guys! I will go ahead and get the vaccine, then. :)
Snowflake - I have been without a car for forever but hopefully by then I will be able to leave my blasted house! Going more than a bit stir crazy here, with all the terrible weather and negative windchills, the kids haven't even been...
Thank you so much! Yes they are coming directly from a well reputed hatchery to my house. Glad there will be at least one thing to check off the list of worries with these new chicks. :)
Thank you, and thank you for asking after her. I think she went out easy, she looked like she drifted away while sleeping, so I hope that was the case. At the very least, I certainly know much more the next time I am confronted with an issue, hopefully I will be able to do more.
Hello Michigan friends
I have a question to pose to you, if you will. Have any of you, particularly on the West side of the state, had issues with Mareks?
I haven't vaccinated any of mine before, but since I am getting some new chicks from a hatchery that offers it, I was thinking I would...
She did not. :C She seemed to be doing much better, sitting / walking / eating pretty normally, then all of a sudden one morning she was gone. I still don't know for sure what got her, but the rest of the flock is fine.
Ok, I read through the first handful of pages on this thread, but want to clarify if someone doesn't mind. :)
I currently have some 4 year old chickens and some 2 year old chickens, and am putting in an order for some new ones this Spring. My first batch came from TSC, which, from what I...
The "liquidy" noises actually sounded like they were from her crop area, and it was while she was moving around bobbing up and down to eat and drink, so maybe that was just the eating and drinking causing it. >.o But the more rhythmic sound she is making now sounds kind of more like a clicking.
Not sure, I was trying to figure that out. Periodically her tail pumps up and down, like she is trying to lay an egg? The weird noise is rhythmic, but I can't figure out if it is from her breathing, or from her vent opening and closing. I am heading out now to grope her sister's belly so that I...
Thanks, guys. Despite having had chickens for years now, I haven't had to deal with anything like this, so I have no idea what I am doing, either. >.< I really appreciate the comments and ideas.
It all felt pretty smooth to me, didn't notice anything else. I went in to take the tums away after you said not to give it unless I felt an egg and she was over there eating them. >.< Since she was up poking about, I brought in food and water and she dug into those on her own, so I guess I...
Thanks, Eggcessive, I will read those over. She will be 4 in March.
Cas - Thanks for understanding, it makes me feel horrible I wish I could just bring her in and get her taken care of. Her belly just feels hard to me. I don't think she's lost any weight, I hadn't noticed anything abnormal...
Oh yes, and she had a lot of poop stuck all over there, I actually soaked her for a while, then cleaned her up and changed the water before letting her soak longer. No idea if that is important information.
I have a hen in that I believe is probably egg bound, although I couldn't feel anything in her vent. I didn't go too far back, because she squawked and struggled like it hurt a lot. I am not sure about feeling around her abdomen, it just all feels hard to me.
Lubed up her vent, though, tried...
