Egg Bound, or Something Else?

It all felt pretty smooth to me, didn't notice anything else. I went in to take the tums away after you said not to give it unless I felt an egg and she was over there eating them. >.< Since she was up poking about, I brought in food and water and she dug into those on her own, so I guess I won't worry about syringing her tums or water.

I haven't got the whole tube contraption thing, anyway.

If you think there might be an egg you could fill your bathroom with steam and stick her in there for a few hours. Just make sure the toilet lid is down, you'd hate to have her drown.

Well, she just pooped, does that rule out egg bound? Or does it just depend on where it is? I swear she is making liquidy noises though >.>

My RIR was eggbound last year. I had NO IDEA what I was doing. I did the tub thing, and left her in a dog crate in the back bedroom where she was secluded, it was quiet and she could calm down. I lubed her vent and tried to feel an egg and couldn't feel anything. I kept doing the baths every hour or so, but only for about 15 minutes. I didn't wan't to overheat her. After about a full day of treatment, she laid 2 soft eggs, and another soft one later that day. After that she was totally fine. I'd find soft eggs around the yard for a while, and then one day she started laying regular eggs. Now she is my best layer.

I have no clue why when she first started laying they were like that, or why the first few seemed to get backed up like that. it was the most bizarre thing. Not sure that that helps any, maybe it will just give you hope that she will be ok.

Good luck

They can be egg bound and still poop. It's a veterinary emergency when they can't poop.

Thanks, guys. Despite having had chickens for years now, I haven't had to deal with anything like this, so I have no idea what I am doing, either. >.< I really appreciate the comments and ideas.

Not sure, I was trying to figure that out. Periodically her tail pumps up and down, like she is trying to lay an egg? The weird noise is rhythmic, but I can't figure out if it is from her breathing, or from her vent opening and closing. I am heading out now to grope her sister's belly so that I can compare and see if this ones is swollen feeling, I am afraid I think it is.

The "liquidy" noises actually sounded like they were from her crop area, and it was while she was moving around bobbing up and down to eat and drink, so maybe that was just the eating and drinking causing it. >.o But the more rhythmic sound she is making now sounds kind of more like a clicking.
