Dark green poop, lethargic and not eating/drinking... HELP!

Hi, I noticed at the end of last week one of my hens drinking but not eating, she was standing on her own puffed up and tail down. I brought her in on Sunday as she had stayed in the coop with the water and food within reach as I was away for a night... when I returned she hadn’t even moved or...

One of my hens poops on her egg EVERY SINGLE TIME!

I am having this issue and I was hoping there would be some advice on your thread! Weirdly the egg with poop always has the best yolk colour so it must be the same hen and like you, the nest box is clean. I would say ours is more than a smear but not a full poop. It’s really annoying but also a...

    Suspected Vent Gleet advice please

Hello, I got 4 ex batts 5 weeks ago and a day after they arrived, three seemed to turn on one hen. She went up and sat on top of the coop a lot to stay out of their way and I noticed whenever she tried to eat or drink she would be chased away by any of the other three. I used to stand at one of...

    Fully resolving vent gleet??

Thanks for the reply, no lash eggs and she had been laying sporadically and the eggs were perfect shape just slightly thin shelled. I must admit I’m not down early enough to see her before she gets out to eat. Maybe I should shut the coop door one night and get down early to let them out... but...

    Fully resolving vent gleet??

Today my problem lady’s feathers look a bit fluffy again and the only thing I have done differently is put some probiotics in their drinking water for a few days. Have you tried that? I still need to wash her as under that fluff is dried yuk but I’m taking it as a positive sign that she looks...

    Fully resolving vent gleet??

Thanks but I just spent £150 and brought her there because of the discharge coming out of her vent and they didn’t deal with it!! She is a newly rescued Ex-Batt so her health isn’t great. I queried an anti fungal and instead they wormed her and started a lice treatment that I could have done...

    Fully resolving vent gleet??

I’ve been dealing with some of your issues, I’ve been topically treating her vent with canesten (suggested on BHWT website) but I’m going to try an oral thrush cream next too... I’ve spent £150 at the vet so far and suggested it was fungal but they treated her for worms/lice and antibiotics for...

    Any idea on the breed/mix?

When I say she had a molt she never looked bare but her neck all changed colour... Just been looking up and some are saying there's a mini molt mostly neck feathers around 9 months. Although it doesn't explain the lack of eggs :/

    Any idea on the breed/mix?

Wow just looked up leghorn and they look very much like a speckled version of some of the pics online. Is there any way to tell the age of a chicken then?

    Any idea on the breed/mix?

Thanks, as said they are pretty rubbish layers, are these breeds not fab layers??

    Any idea on the breed/mix?

Pretty sure both hens, have on rare occasions had 2 white eggs out of them. But they are rubbish at laying! One of them is okay but one has literally laid a handful of eggs in 6 months. Neither crowing! If it wasn't for our red star we would be pretty eggless most of the time here! I'm just...

In search of the elusive dark orange yolk

So if you are saying it's so much more nutritious we don't need to eat our veg anymore, just hot peppers! Anyway with the green veg my hens egg yolks have become a nice colour so it must do enough but thanks for the info, not so much about the list of ailments as that's a different topic...

In search of the elusive dark orange yolk

Surely adding peppers is not nutritionally beneficial to the chicken or egg just gives it a different colour... Whereas I imagine feeding them more green leafy veg improves not just the colour but health of the chicken and would help produce more nutritious eggs? just thinking out loud really.

    Pecking order query

Had to look up the peepers and apparently illegal in the UK on welfare grounds. But reviews say they work. Anyway, I have been down early and don't see any scuffles but maybe they hear me coming. My back door is noisy and then I have to go into the run where the coop is so lots of opportunity to...

In search of the elusive dark orange yolk

I have been giving a lot of greens, spinach, kale, spring greens and the egg yolk became orange and they love it. Mine can't free range though but I even noticed a difference just putting grass clippings in with them so I just use any greens I can get really to add to their diet.

    Pecking order query

Well she only really went for the one that is losing tail feathers so I assumed bottom hen but maybe she was seen as the only challenge. She never fought back though and was submissive enough so I haven't seen any pecking at all during the day for ages. But the feathers are only in the coop so I...
