Hi,
I noticed at the end of last week one of my hens drinking but not eating, she was standing on her own puffed up and tail down.
I brought her in on Sunday as she had stayed in the coop with the water and food within reach as I was away for a night... when I returned she hadn’t even moved or had anything I’d left her.
At first she mostly slept wrapped in towel after a clean up. I’ve been dropping water onto her beak to make her drink, with some electrolytes in the water. But she isn’t getting much. Yesterday she ate a tiny tiny bit of wet mash and today I tried egg and she ate some but not a lot.
She has dark green poop (pic attached) which I read is dehydration, she doesn’t have lice or worms. Her comb and wattles have gone from red to pale orange and she’s lethargic. She’s standing mostly not sitting, doesn’t feel swollen at all.
Is there anything I can do to stop her starving herself to death? The vet that deals with chickens isn’t in until tomorrow night or Friday if I can get an appointment then, so any advice about how to bring her round is appreciated.
She is an Ex Batt rescued in May so approximately 21 months old.
I can’t think of any other info you might need but she seemed normal a week ago. Hope someone can offer some advice to help her. Thank you.
