I intend to do my best to drop the discription of porcelain from silkies period. They are not a true porcelain as discribed. No two look the same. I intend on a new name for such or, better still no color distiction in silkies. It is I tall order and I will probably devote most of my life to it...

No difference in the standard for lavender in silkies than in other colours (APA & ABA call it self-blue).
I spoke with George Mihalik (porcelain silkie creator) a couple of weeks ago and he agreed that the porcelains need to have mottle bred into them so that they conform to the true...

Blue or green eggs mean Easter egger chickens. But they could still have silkie traits like beards or crests, Black Skin or 5 toes. Rarely fur like feathers like a true Silkie. It is a pet project of mine to create a silkie that lays such colored eggs. Maybe some has beat me to it! Oops...

My progress so far is that some look like colored Sultans. One with a what I believe to be a "buttercup comb". most are black skinned 5 toed and crested. Some bearded some not. As for silkie feathering.... so far non existant. I do have a much older one (older than the other EE pullets...

The first pic you posted to me looks like a Black Silkiie withe lavendar showing through in its hackel feathering. It could just be the lighting. My Blacks with the lavendar gene look similar but they didn't come from Bobbie but they did come from north of the mason dixon line. Maybe...

I am glad to here doodle is doing better!!! Keep a close eye anyway. I had the same experience as pamperedpoultry this past summer. I lost some of my pullets and it seemed to always get the best ones!! We treated all (100 plus and counting) our chickens except for a few in the most distant...
If I had my way and enough room they would live in the house with me all the time. (sometimes some do just that) Honestly I keep mine in tractors as much as I can. I also try to keep them dry as I can. In the summer I try give them lots of shade so they don't get to hot. I think they love the...

Thanks April! The chick you mentioned looks nothing like either of my "porcelains" did when they were that age. all of mine have had strips of one form or the other. Despite what you may have read from the hopefuls, phenotype has not been fully achieved ( the way they should look). In...

Hi Paul,
If you look at the picture of the Porcelain from the other thread, then look at my chick photo, the 3rd from the bottom left, That would be the Porcelain in that photo. Most of the others are Lavs, the one's with the dark brown & white stripes, well you know that...
You know I am Silly! My problem Is have no roo to test with. The one I thought was a roo is acting more like a hen now(just one more thing to add to the puzzle..all hens no Roo). I hatched another one yesterday from the same BBS pen (notice splash). After reading your post I do believe some of...
Thanks Brody!!! I checked it out and I think fattie has a porcelain. Despite the caution of some others and I do know why they are cautioning. The only way to know better would be to have the bird in my hands. My question to you would be as you read that post did you get lost a bit? Some times I...

I have some of bobbies chickens myself. My best partridge Roo came from them. I don't post many pics of him because I am not sure of what the stupid apa standard for his coloring is but in my eyes he is beautful!! He always wants to be close to me but he doesn't like to be picked up. I have a...
