Yes, humidity can cause problems; it is such a pain! How do those hens do it? I just had three broodie hens hatch clutches; 28 out of 30 eggs hatched! So much easier! But I had a bunch of eggs I wanted to hatch so here we go again with the incubator. Sometimes you can figure out what causes a...
There are so many variables with incubating; things that could go wrong. It has happened. I once had a temperature spike that killed everything. I've had chicks that were fully developed but died in the shell just before hatching. Were these shipped eggs?
Okay then, just be patient. If nothing else pips after 24 hours, I would take the one chick out and candle at least some of the eggs looking for internal pips or movement.
Hi CM, Welcome to BYC! I have not used that incubator, but I have been incubating for the last two years. It's hard to give advice without more information, but I would wait another 24 hours and see if more pip. When did you last candle the eggs?
Sorry to have to report, due to a bad case of stomach flu, I did not set any eggs for this HAL. You may remove my name from the list. I will be hatching again soon! Good luck to everyone for a great hatch!
I am no expert, but I will guess pullet from the way she holds herself. The thing about wing feathers being short/long is probably referring to day old chicks of certain breeds that can be sexed by looking at the wing feather tips growing in.
Thank you gpop 1. I'm not aware of it having an alarm feature. If it does I don't know how to turn it on. There were no instructions, so I had to figure out how to set it. We did have a thunder storm last night and I wondered if that could have something to do with it? I actually bought another...
I'm in shock. Last night at the last turning for the day, everything was fine, but this morning the temperature in my cooler-bator was 130 degrees. I've been using the same equipment for a year and have hatched dozens of healthy chicks. Everything was going well. I just can't believe this...
The last egg under my broody hatched sometime during the night, another beautiful blue Silkie! So the final count is 9 Silkies and 8 assorted dual purpose large fowl. Now I'm building another small Silkie house; it will be my 5th coop.
Hope #6 makes it! Congrats on the rest!
I just checked on my broodie and found a fluffy light blue chick under her! The other egg is pipped, so maybe will hatch tonight.
Hey, I've used both horizontal and vertical nipples and definitely prefer the horizontal ones. The vertical ones do sometimes stick and drip.
For keeping the water from freezing I use a birdbath de-icer in the bucket; works great!
Hey, sorry for your trouble. Definitely isolate the hurt chicken and clean her up as well as you can to see the extent of damage. Spray the wound with antiseptic spray or apply bacitracin ointment.
If you know which chicken is pecking the others, remove her and keep her separate from the others...
