    Agressive Polish?

I don't know for sure, but will tell you that we are dealing with the exact same thing! Ours are 6 months old and Einstien is the only polish. She, too, runs at us for food and fluffs all her neck feathers out and charges our legs. She LOVES to peck our toes (ouch!) when we are wearing...

    Having Big Rooster Problems...help!

I had a rooster that was doing that to my polish pullet. She would hide her head in a corner and just let him be brutal to her. He'd stand on her back when she was stuck in a corner if he couldn't get at her. I try not to humanize my chickens, but it was so sad to see! It really upset the...

I don't want to cull my cockrel, but...

Quote: Howdy neighbor! I'm in Ashby, MA. Thanks for the tip, but how should I go about getting a hand on him if he's trying to take me out? When it happened, I turned around and yelled at him. He stepped back a little and then prepared for another go. Since I grew up with horses, I know that...

Free, free, free! Think I have a place for the frizzle, but could ask them to take one of the others instead. He's supposed to go tomorrow am. I have the the friz caged as he's being horrible to the maran cross. The polish is nice with the ladies, but chased my 5 year old daughter and shes...

NEAS Meet-up's Westford ma (buy sell swap)11/4 see post #1090

I'm in lunenburg and have 3 roosters in my flock of 10. Clearly I need to place a couple. Anyone have any interest in the frizzle roo or polish roo that I have? They are 6 months old. Both came from npip tested flocks. I also have a maran auracana cross- light grey with red highlights. Appears...

Tiny all red (orange almost) bugs on my eggs!

So, are these the kinds of mites that I can find on my chickens? Or the ones that live only in the coop- and feed on the chickens at night? I'm trying really hard not to, but I am FREAKING out! We have a whole flock at point of lay- only one is laying. I'm now convinced that only one is...

Tiny all red (orange almost) bugs on my eggs!

UGH. My husband tried to convince me that these were mites that just lived in the environment. Darn it. I will pull everything out, dust and refill with clean bedding. If they don't live on the chickens, do I need to use ivomec? Darn it! Edit: of course my entire coop is wooden! Next...

Tiny all red (orange almost) bugs on my eggs!

As the title says, I found tiny little red mites of some sort crawling on one of my eggs this am. I've never seen them before and my chickens look fine. I will catch a chicken tonight and inspect closely, but I can't find any bugs on the one chicken that I can catch. The bugs are tiny...

Chickens with PTSD after hawk attack?

I've lost birds to foxes and hawks. My birds are freaked out for a few days after attacks. The hawk got my birds in my fenced in back yard- 3 in one day. The birds were a mess for a good 24 hours and skittish for 2-3 days. After the fox attacked when they were free ranging, the recovery...

Had to buy eggs- again! Just a vent

Thank you everyone! Clearly I've come to the right place for a vent! I know that it just takes time. Sad for me. I did some reading today and it seems unlikely that our 2 roosters will continue to live in harmony for much longer. We'll wait to see who is nicer to the kids and the ladies...

Had to buy eggs- again! Just a vent

Just looking for some sympathy from some chicken people. :-) I have a flock of 12. ONE is a lovely ancona of laying age, but she molted a few weeks ago and has not resumed laying. Darn her! We loved her pretty, small white eggs. She was the sole survivor of a fox slaughter. She laid eggs...

HELP!, Aggressive 2 mth old Blk Crested Polish (hen or roo ?)

I have 2 polish that are 12-14 weeks. One has waddles like yours and his face started getting really red- the other does not have waddles and isn't red. The waddles came first, then the redness. I cannot see an difference in their hats, but over the last few days there seem to have been some...

Looks like a feather pillow exploded but

No feather loss on my chicken? I have one that's probably due for a molt. She was hatched on Thanksgiving and has been laying for 3 months. She stopped laying about 3 weeks ago. We thought that she was hiding eggs (she is the only girl old enough to lay), but now that she's been run and coop...

Heard the egg song, but no egg !!

Don't know for sure, but can tell you that my entire FLOCK was singing the egg song for a couple of weeks before I saw any eggs. They seemed to cheer each other on! So, for me it was normal to hear the egg song and then- NO EGG. Not yet, at least!
