Thank you. She seems very healthy and happy. So relieved to hear it's normal to skip a year. We had a really long and brutal winter. Maybe that affected her.
Thank you. Amazing how hard I had to look before finding someone with a similar experience. Now if the gander would just forget about spring and stop trying to protect eggs that aren't there.
I use barn lime in the chicken coop and in the barn where my geese are. Never had a problem yet. You do have to put it down when they aren't in there and let the dust settle before they return. I think garden lime would be dangerous.
I noticed her hopping around and thought the leg was broken. I picked her up and realized its just dangling there like it isn't attached to anything. She didn't fuss when I moved it around, so it doesn't seem to be painful. Can I do anything for her? This happened tonight during free-range...
My 8 year old Indian Runner is suddenly wobbly and falling down. How do you do the epsom salt treatment? I had two, the other became listless about 2 weeks ago and died the next day. This one seemed like he was doing fine. Please help. My heart is breaking. Thank you.
I was successful stopping one broody by removing her from the nest. She had hatched 6 chicks but wasn't giving it up. No sooner than I got her to stop another started. This one kept moving from nest to nest thereby ruining eggs all over the place. She finally settled in one, so I let her go...
I've found waiting until they're all perched up for the night and going in with the dust filled nylon sock works great. (think powder puff). - My hens respond like its a spa treatment and I can give them a thorough dusting. Coop & pen get dusted when they aren't in there.
Warm ashes sounds like a great idea. We have a sliding barn door and the feed is in there. Can't keep it clear because we aren't home most of the day. When it snows and freezes, the ice build up lifts the door slightly off the track. Just enough to make it almost impossible to open. We...
Is there any type of ice melter, besides the sun, safe to use in the vicinity of chickens? Lots of ice by my barn door, but afraid the hens may snack on anything I put down.
A friend is being forced to give up her three seven-month old hens. I have about thirty mixed hens right now. Should I quarentine them. If yes, for how long? Also, is my flock likely to reject these new girls? Thanks!!
