    . I'd say as long as the sawdust isn't cedar they will be fine. The flying and running is probably there way of injoying a new larger brooder and a great way of exercise.

    Since everyone seems to be having much better temps then we ( -5 to -20 ) I'm also considering turning the heat lamp off. The chicks are a week old but there also in our home, staying a consistent 72 degrees. Is this much to cool for them and would they still need a source of heat.

    Can't thank you enough for the notice of champion having chicks today. My DW and I went there today and did met the Fabulous crew that were working there. Very charming and polite. We just so happened to come home with a few chicks too.

    I can only assume this isn't a heritage RiR. It's my father in laws rooster that was actually brooded by a mallard last summer. If I can recall correctly the hen was either a red sex link or production red ?
