    Wet weather and mites

Thanks for your information! I see no nits or any kind of buildup on any of the birds. Pretty sure they were mites that came off of Tuffy. We’ll start our treatments as soon as my dust and spray arrive unless I can find some in town. They had nothing in the poultry area but now I know what to...

    Wet weather and mites

After my Tuffy died, I saw very tiny bugs, like the point of a pin. They were dark gray or black-much smaller than a grain of pepper.

    Wet weather and mites

The run isn’t covered. We recently cleaned the coop( before I knew about mites). My nest boxes are lined with Astro turf. We use wood chips, rather than straw. I can’t see mites on my chickens but some are losing some feathers. Some on their shoulder blades, some on their backs. I looked under...

    Wet weather and mites

i live in North Dakota and we are very wet. My chicken run is muddy and the chickens are wet-all 60 of them. My favorite guy died and I was holding him while he was passing. I found mites all over me! How to I treat my birds and coop in this awful weather?

    Broken wing

My polish chicken, Boris, survived an attack by something and got a broken wing out of the deal. We live in ND and winters are extremely cold. I know that chickens regulate their body temperature with their feathers. I’m worried Boris won’t be able to stay warm enough with his broken wing. I...

Can 3 day old chicks have Greek yogurt or do they have to have regular yogurt

Someone told me to mix equal amounts of any yogurt with active cultures and chick feed to help with pasty butt. Mine were 4 days old. All I had was Greek yogurt and they love it.

    Buying chicks online?

Check with Meyer Hatchery. They have reasonable shipping for small orders. And they are VERY good to work with.

No more brooder on the floor.

I put a dish dry cloth from the dollar store under the heater and paper towels where they walk a lot, just next to the heater. I have the feeder on the wire with a pan under on the slide out tray to catch the wasted feed. This is working amazing! When their feet are a little tougher, I won’t...

    Swedish flower hen

I had a silkie ‘hen’ that started to crow. Roosters had mounted so I called it a she. To this day I have no way to know. I think it has both sexes.

Thanks! I’ll get some yogurt in town tomorrow. I’m gentle with the cleaning.

Must have been a hell of a ride.

We were having two below zero temps the week I got my chicks. The brinsea does gibe them direct heat and in addition, I had a ceramic heater in the room near their brooder.
