Ooooh gotcha. I've got pine in the coop part right now, but I think I'm going to switch to the PDZ mixture up there. It's already starting to get stinky LOL. I'm more worried about the run part because my previous coop got very ammonia smelling with 5 girls in there. (Edit: Even with them...
6x10 in the run. (trying to get the pics off my phone but my phone doesn't like the forum for some reason and won't let me sign in LOL)
Here we go: (As I mentioned in the coop building thread, it's much more ventilated than it looks, and there's an overhang at the top to divert rain over the...
Hi guys. So I know this is discussed often and I did do a search, but haven't really come up with an answer to my question. I'm torn between doing deep litter method with pine/yard clippings/leaves in the fall, and using the sweet PDZ/hay/DE combo that I inadvertently bought at a feed store (I...
My 8 week old ladies have been having trouble with the ladder from the coop to the run. It's not steep, the steps are spaced near each other, they just haven't been able to figure it out. I've got 2 Sapphire Gems and 2 Calico Princesses, and the sapphires are clearly the smarter of the bunch...
Oh, absolutely. They will free range for most of the day, at least until I get the big run built. I don't like the idea of chickens not being able to free range, so it didn't even occur to me to mention. Thanks!
I'm not new to chicken keeping, our only consistent predator here are hawks. The coop has an overhang at the top to direct water past the vent at the top of the door, and I will be adding weather stripping to the crack between the doors this week. The dimensions of the run are 6 feet by 10...
Eventually we'll have six. 4 Sapphire Gems and 2 Calico Princesses. We have 4 now, waiting for their sisters to join us in a couple weeks after hatching. <3
Hi all, it's been a minute since I've been on this site, 2 years ago my (now ex) insisted we get rid of our ladies and I've been so focused on school since that I haven't had time to build a coop. Now, with some serious time off, and no annoying ex to complain about chicken poop I've had the...
Hi all, I'm having a hard time finding a home for my 3 little boys. I've got 1 Barnevelder, about 2.5 months, 1 Welsummer, about 4 weeks, and one Olive Egger, also about 4 weeks. The Welsummer is beautiful but a bit aggressive towards the other boys. I can meet up anywhere within an hour's...
I posted this in the breed/gender thread, but I thought you guys might have a better/faster answer. Is this a MFL? And do you think it's a pullet or a cockerel? (4 weeks old...I've been going under the assumption that it's a pullet)
Awww, crud...I'm just now seeing the difference in 'her' feathers...Is this a cockerel? Almost 4 weeks old, and I've been going under the assumption that it's a pullet...
I'm new to this, and my awesome chicken lady sold me this beauty. I live her to pieces, I think she's gorgeous, but I've looked up pics of what my chicken lady said she was and she doesn't really look the same. Is she an odd color? I don't mind, I think she's gorgeous, I'd just like to know. :)
