    Sand or stone?

My flock gets giddy when they see us holding garden forks and shovels. They know we are going to turn over the contents of the run and they are going to feast on worms and critters. I am so jealous. I want a rototiller for Christmas!

Would you have stood by and watched the same attack on a puppy by an adult dog? There is nothing natural about keeping fowl in runs. It is up to us to observe and manage our flocks to determine when something is not right and take steps to correct problems. If you, "LoveThemBirds," as...

Good Morning Old Mission Chick, We have 4 KC hens none of which have heads that dark but they do come in different shades and color distributions. I don't think I have ever seen one that matches the standard. The quacking was the first indicator and of course a tail feather never...

Poor little girl. The damage done mating with a drake can kill a chicken. Please isolate her. If you put her in with the chicks they may peck her damaged tissue. She needs quiet and rest and you may still lose her. Good luck, -DB

Here is my guilty admission. I have never measured humidity and the mercury thermometer that came with the HBator is a slip and slide. I've trusted the HBator factory settings and followed the directions for keeping the water channels filled and never had a hatch fail. I set them and...

At six weeks old we switch to 1/2 Starter + 1/2 Grow Feed for two weeks then just Grow for a couple of months. You can switch when your breed is mature to lay mash or lay pellets. -DB

We us a HovaBator with great success. There are handy dandy channels which hold water for incubating and hatching for different types of eggs. When we follow the directions for using these channels the humidity is spot on. Our only challenge is keeping the lid on during Lock Down. My answer...

50 acres with a stream sounds like duck heaven but you many not have 6 for long as it is predator heaven as well. Maybe you need a border collie and a Hula Hoop:

I would love to see a video of this. My ducks are easy to herd as well. There is a training center near by that uses ducks to train herding dogs.
