    cowering/not walking/weak

I am sorry to say that I have misread all the signs and feel like a bad chicken mommy. They were hen pecking her and it is so sad. She is in my kitchen again with a large head wound. Every time I got her back to health and thought she'd be okay to go out again, they would beat her up and I...

    cowering/not walking/weak

Thanks for the advice! I did try to give her the vitamin drops and was unsuccessful. She just kinda gave me the evil bird eye and wouldn't open for nothing....but I will try again! I had to run out this morning so I put her in the coop and she did walk around a bit but was really not into it...

    cowering/not walking/weak

My pretty little redstar (?) Smores has been in my house since friday. She was hiding in the run for 2 days and wouldn't walk. I picked her up and she weighed nothing and her crop was empty. She eats and drinks now and walks a few feet here and there but whenever I go to put her outside again...

It's official - a dogs' barking is WAY worse than a rooster crowing!

I have neighbors that are pretty far off and I hear their dog yapping and it aggrevates me to no end. But when my roos crow at 3 am when I get home from work I laugh and say "That's my boys!". Then at 3:30, 4, 4:30, 5, 5:30...and so on...and so on...

So my husband has me figured out...

My DH even brags to his friends how clever some of the chickens are and how wonderful my roo is. He does this the whole time acting like they're just egg factories and "her" pets. Meanwhile he's beaming and knows all his chicky-poos names. Everyday he goes and throws bread and seed off the deck...

What is a good movie for pet chickens to watch on a windy/rainy day?

I have an isa brown who pecks on the slider if someone forgets to lock them in. That tactic is also used by 2 others to demand treats. We are remodeling the basement and the t.v. will be in eyeshot of a window that the chickens look in. So now I know what movies to show and what to feed them!

    Too many roos?

[/img] Four months ago we hatched baby chicks and kept 5 that we knew were girls. Okay, we were wrong. My dd picked out a roo, ds picked a roo and my other ds picked a hen. We already have a roo for the 13 adult hens. My 5 "kids" free range together and roost together and only go with the adults...

    The People of Walmart Thread!

My mom sends me pics every so often of Walmart shoppers and I didn't know it was an actual site. I work at a Wally World and there seems to be a growing trend to "display" yourself while shopping. It's a real hoot in the summer...lots of fat rolls hanging out of places that you didn't know...

*gulp* what do I do with them when they're "done"?

I buy chicken at the store cuz "they didn't know me". I don't feel any emotion when I sell or give away xtra roos but I could never have anything to do with the butchering.

    Losing feathers

Are there feathers missing out of her backside? Do you have a rooster that's maybe an aggressive mater? He'll rip out feathers as he's trying to mount. Just check for mites too. Maybe someone else will have advice.

    Hens on laying strike

If you haven't had any or few eggs since march than I agree with the other posts about egg snatching predators. Also it's possible about hens being egg eaters. I've seens posts where people sprinkle either flour or baby powder (can't remeber which) on the ground all around the coop to see if...

    Bad ol' Chickens!!!

My 2 red sexlinks are the most outgoing. They follow you and stare through my slider waiting for treats but still not fond of being held. My brabanter used to literally be my toddler and not leave my feet. I would hold her and put her down and she'd want me to pick her up again...not anymore! My...

    2 dogs attacked my flock

That is aweful. I hate hearing about family pets being so darn nasty. Those poor birds. I got a call yesturday at work from my dd and she said my hen came home. I am very happy. Not a mark on her.
