Our leghorn hen has a very big red comb but when I read about chicks they normally say combs should remain small and yellow for hens for ages. Aha I like your optimism.
Even with a possible Leghorn mum for the white two I can't deny that they must be boys as they're all aged 7-8 weeks. Can't decide on the black one for sure yet but probs a boy isn't it :/.
Thanks aha. We tend to hatch more roosters and I was hoping maybe this time we would be lucky! Oh well can't be helped. Will just have to wait and see what they are. We already have an issue having two roosters, I'm already growing fond of the our white chick but all roos will have to go to...
Ahh that's good news!! Hopefully they stay yellow. It sounds promising. After doing some research I'm concerned I have 3 boys and hopefully a grey girl- not great!
Sorry henerz101 got a bit confused. You won't see many clues at 2 weeks anyways. Hopefully they'll be more visible to you soon.
6 week update? losing track aha. Grey one is probably 6 weeks. the black 5 and the white two in between 5-6.
Our pure white chick has the biggest comb. Is fully feathered and has a tail just like it's mum (who has a very large red comb herself)
I'm not good at working out which chick has...
Struggled to get good pics through coop but here are my best ones
Grey chick-(oldest- no.1)-
The black chick( baby chick no.4) was hard to get a good pic of. Still tiny and teeny yellow comb.
chick no.2 and no.3
the first 1 here, (chick no.2) is the only chick with the longer tail...
Hi sorry didn't know you had replied!! Those two look lovely :). I don't know all our hen breeds but mummy is only the real mum to our black Chick. The rest belong to other hens. I'm looking to take a few pics later :)
Hi everyone,
We have 4 new chicks in the family. Our hen did a great job, especially as they all hatched on different days (lost the fifth that hatched).
I know you can feather sex, not sure if it's only certain breeds. I think 2 of the 4 are too old to be feather sexed but interested in...
this one is very sweet! Hope it lasts. Think I've definitely seen some pointed feathers on him now. Can't deny he's a a he but hope he stays friendly! Do you have a picture of your girl?
I was afraid you would say that. Those are my thoughts also, was just hoping maybe it was because he was a mixed breed and also because he's so fluffy. I have looked closely at his neck and tail feathers and they do appear rounded on close inspection. Thanks though :)
