Well, it turns out we are posting for the bugger tonight. A friend of mine is a bear hunters guide, and he says it needs to be taken care of due to the fact that it is an extremely large bear and it is not afraid of invading human space.
The feed was inside the barn! The coops are built right inside the barn, behind the milk house... I thought they would be safe there... I will upload a picture when I can.
I went out to let my flock out of their coops this morning, and found my feed bucket in the driveway...! I had heard my dog barking last night, and DH forced her to come in. Apparently she was trying to tell us there was a thief in the hen house ~ literally! A large bear dragged my feed (it was...
I just canned from the 8 roosters I butchered a couple weeks ago...! the family loves the nice tender meat! I cooked them all in a large stock pot, allowed it to cool, then removed the bones. I canned the cooked meat, and it is delicious!
That's what I thought too... so when she plucked out all her breast feathers and wouldn't get out of the nest box I thought maybe she was sick! She has one hatched, one got stepped on after it had zipped and one to go... but two is okay, seeing as how I assumed I wouldn't have a broody girl in...
My Leghorn broody is sitting on four eggs... the other three got smashed so I moved her...
I have a PIP!!!! I candled last nite, and have one late quitter, but I should get three little fuzzy butts today! Yay!!! (just had to tell someone lol)
Well, it didn't work... left the girls in until 12:30, and had 8 eggs missing when I got back from shopping! I looked everywhere I could think of, and to no avail. I had really hoped to not have to build them a run but I am thinking that their days of free ranging are going to have to come to...
Clare ~ I don't get that type of egg regularly out of my girls, and the first one scared me! She walked around with her tail down and later laid the egg out in the open... I think it must have gotten stuck. I did notice that one of my new layers laid one like this on Sunday, although the egg...
Mine have decided to lay elsewhere too... and finding clutches of 20 to 30 eggs is no fun when you have no idea how long they have been there! I started locking my girls up in the morning to try to prevent this, and you're right ~~ they hold it until I let them out!
In an attempt to fix out of...
Sold my last 3 dozen... hopefully no one comes in the next day or two so I can get my "inventory" built back up! My 20 week olds just started laying this week, so I can just eat those instead of my sell-ables!!!
